Hey Girl Hey 👋🏽✨
Did you know your baby’s position and station in your pelvis can influence how labor progresses?
As your baby moves through labor, they don’t just move down, they also rotate through your pelvis. Different peanut ball positions can help create space for your baby to get into a better position, engage deeper into the pelvis, descend more efficiently, rotate more easily, and move towards pushing & birth.
Your pelvis has 3 different levels your baby moves through during labor:
⬆️Pelvic Inlet (Top of the Pelvis)
This is where baby first enters the pelvis. During early labor, we often focus on creating space to encourage baby to engage and move lower.
Best peanut ball positions:
• Side-lying
• Flying Cowgirl
• Knees apart, ankles IN
🧠 Something to remember
(Feet/ankles IN may help opens the pelvic INLET)
➡️ Mid Pelvis (Middle of the Pelvis)
This is often where babies rotate to navigate the curve of the birth canal. If labor seems to slow, opening one side of the pelvis can help create room for rotation.
Best peanut ball positions:
• Asymmetrical side-lying
•Asymmetrical movements
• Runner’s Pose
⬇️ Pelvic Outlet (Bottom of the Pelvis)
As baby moves into the pushing phase, we want to maximize the outlet to give baby the most room to be born.
Best peanut ball positions:
• Knees together, ankles apart (widens the pelvic outlet)
• Hands-and-knees leaning over the peanut ball
• Hugging the peanut ball while on all fours
🧠 Something to remember
(Feet/ankles OUT & knees in may help opens the pelvic OUTLET)
✨ The peanut ball isn’t just comfort alone. When paired with purposeful positioning, it can help:
• Encourage baby to engage into the pelvis
• Support baby’s descent through labor
• Create space for rotation
• Optimize the pelvic outlet for pushing
• Promote efficient labor progress
