One of the most amazing attributes of Hubbard Public Library is the breadth, depth and variety of programs and resources provided! The beautiful Sensory Garden--renovated and 're-imagined' last year--is the perfect place for reading, relaxation, tranquility and more, for people of all ages! Below, Pam G.'s granddaughter reads and ponders thoughtfully. Pam G. is a former member (retired in January) of the library's Adult Services Team.

For book, poetry and cat lovers! This poem is beautiful and, in fact, represents a very accurate study on cats and cat behavior. For example, the poet Christopher Smart observed and commented quite accurately and lovingly on their hunting, grooming and play behavior. You can find numerous(!) books and more on cats, Christopher Smart and other poets, animal behavior and related subjects at Hubbard Public Library (of course!). And if they don't have the specific book in which you are interested, you can request that book from another library in their inter-library loan system, and have it delivered to Hubbard Public Library for pick-up there! How amazing and wonderful is that!!

Confined to an asylum in the 1700s with almost no one left to talk to, an English poet began writing a long, strange hymn of praise to the only companion he had left: his cat.

Christopher Smart was shut away for years, cut off from his family and friends, allowed to keep just his cat Jeoffry.

Line after line, he watched the animal wash, stretch, play, and pray in its own quiet way, and turned it into seventy-four lines of pure devotion that begin, "For I will consider my Cat Jeoffry."

The poem was so far ahead of its time that it sat unpublished for nearly two hundred years. Today it is considered one of the most beautiful things ever written about a cat.

To everyone who loves books, squirrels, turtles and more! It can be noted that there are several Hubbard squirrels who adore the Sensory Garden at Hubbard Public Library, as well as the wonderful people who work there, and--of course--all the books! Again, many thanks to everyone who attended the Hubbard Friends of the Library "Annual Spring Book Sale" last Friday and Saturday! Your support makes a positive impact on the library, everyone who uses the library, and this entire community! THANK YOU for making a positive difference in the lives of others.
