Time will tell what are the blessings and challenges of our new family member. In 2020, he and I were certified as a therapy dog team.

Two months after the sudden passing of Mickey in May-2024, we adopted Mika (mee-ka), a 4 year-old female Great Pyrenees rehomed from a family going through some difficulty. Mickey is a 4 year-old Great Pyrenees that was rescued from a bad situation in North Dakota and brought to Hudson, Wisconsin by Coco's Heart Dog Rescued in 2019. In March of 2023, we completed our 400th visit. We visit many senior living places along with 2 day centers for adults with developmental disabilities, an alternative high school program, and a public Montessori elementary school all in the Hudson and River Falls Wisconsin area. Mickey is a super calm gentle dog with a love for being petted so he is a natural at this. We are certified through the Alliance of Therapy Dogs, a national organization with over 14,000 certified therapy teams.

Yesterday, Mika was invited to the visitation for a friend we met visiting her nursing home. Hudson Floral created a great shoulder corsage. We make many friends visiting senior residences, but end up saying goodbye way too often...

Mika getting her morning head on my lap time before getting the anticipatory zoomies for a morning adventure. Unfortunately, this morning, Dawn and I are meeting with our investment banker. This afternoon, she heads to the elementary school.

We had a great first visit of the school year on Wednesday afternoon to the River Falls Public Montessori Elementary School. Extra special was meeting the new 4k and kindergarten students for the first time. Mika also received her official school dog badge. Priceless.

We attended the open house on Thursday and Mika got her school picture taken. I am hoping she will will get placed on the staff page. Mika received a lot of attention from returning elementary students, met several incoming kindergarteners, and sniffed a few babies in strollers. All in all a great time. We will start our weekly 2-hour visits in mid-September. It starts our 6th year of being a part of this great place. Can't wait.

Mika met a donkey today while we were visiting our friend Anna, who manages the farm at the YMCA Camp St. Croix. They both seemed intrigued with each other.

There was much excitement during our visit to CCH this morning as most of the residents were outside watching the staff kickball game. The video is Mika watching them sing the national anthem. True Americana!

Today, Mika made her final visit to the River Falls Public Montessori Elementary School for this school year. Big thanks for all of the staff and students for making us feel like a part of the family. Priceless.
