Released Your QL? Don't Skip This Next Step!
LOW BACK PAIN? DO THIS IMMEDIATELY AFTER RELEASING YOUR QL πŸ‘‡
You released the tight QL and finally created some lengthβ€”but if you don't build stability immediately after, your body will return right back to its old compensation pattern.
In Part 3 of this series, we are locking in that new range of motion. We focus on single-leg stability to help the glutes and core support the pelvis and maintain better alignment while the QL is relaxed. This stabilization step is exactly how we break the chronic, frustrating cycle of recurring hip hiking and lumbar tension.
If you or your clients are constantly chasing a tight QL without addressing the underlying lack of stability, the relief will always be temporary.

🦡 Stop Chasing Sciatica Pain!

If you've been stretching your hip, hamstrings, or lower back but your sciatic discomfort keeps returning, you may be missing part of the picture.

In my newest YouTube video, I discuss how the nervous system can influence movement patterns, muscle activation, and compensation throughout the body. Understanding these patterns may help explain why some approaches work better than others for different people.

In this video, we cover:

βœ”οΈ Why muscles may become less active on the painful side

βœ”οΈ How the opposite leg often compensates

βœ”οΈ Why aggressive stretching isn't always appropriate

βœ”οΈ The difference between static stretching and nerve flossing

βœ”οΈ When to focus on relaxation, activation, and strengthening

βœ”οΈ How to think about long-term movement strategies instead of quick fixes

Whether you're experiencing recurring sciatic discomfort or you're a therapist looking to better understand compensation patterns, this video provides practical education and a different perspective on pain and movement.

Think sciatica is just a piriformis issue? Think again. ❌🧠
It’s a full-body picture, and your nervous system is actually trying to protect you by turning muscles OFF.
When the sciatic nerve is irritated or under stress, your body doesn't experience a simple "weakness" problemβ€”it triggers a protection mechanism. To prevent further compression, your nervous system dials down the muscle output to surrounding structures (like the glutes).
If you are only chasing symptoms or mindlessly stretching one tight muscle, you're missing the root cause. Real relief requires looking at the entire structure: spinal mechanics, disc issues, joint dysfunction, and movement patterns. πŸ›οΈβœ¨ MASSAGE THERAPISTS & BODYWORKERS:

🦴 Why One Side Feels Tight🦴 Part 2: The Release

In Part 1, we looked at a common pattern where one side of the body becomes compressed between the rib cage and pelvis.

In this video, I demonstrate a side-lying technique designed to help reduce tension through the QL, obliques, and surrounding tissues while encouraging diaphragmatic breathing.

The goal is to create more space between the rib cage and pelvis and improve movement through the compressed side of the body.

Remember, releasing the area is only part of the solution. In Part 3, I'll show the stabilization exercise I use to help prevent the pattern from returning.

Have you ever noticed one side of your lower back feels tighter than the other?

πŸ›οΈ Massage Therapists: Would You Use Disposable Sheets?

One of the biggest hidden costs in a massage practice is laundry. Between washing, drying, folding, and replacing worn-out linens, it adds up quickly.

I recently came across these disposable massage table sheets and thought they were an interesting option for:
βœ”οΈ Mobile massage therapists
βœ”οΈ High-volume clinics
βœ”οΈ Estheticians
βœ”οΈ Therapists looking to reduce laundry time

Personally, I still appreciate the comfort and feel of traditional linens, but I can definitely see situations where disposable sheets could be useful.

Have you ever used disposable sheets in your practice?

🦴 This Tiny Muscle Can Make Your Entire Body Look Crooked | Part 1

Have you ever noticed:

βœ” One shoulder higher than the other?
βœ” One side of your lower back always feels tighter?
βœ” A rib cage that seems more prominent on one side?

One possible contributor is the Quadratus Lumborum (QL), a deep muscle that connects the pelvis to the 12th rib.

When the QL becomes shortened or overactive on one side, it can bring the rib cage and pelvis closer together, creating compression through that side of the body. Over time, the rest of the body may adapt and compensate to stay upright and balanced.

In this video, I use my skeleton model to break down a common compensation pattern I frequently see in the clinic.

πŸ‘‰ Part 2: The Release
πŸ‘‰ Part 3: The Fix

One Small Change Can Transform Your Entire Treatment Room.
I recently added a rug to my massage room, and it's amazing how one simple change can completely change the atmosphere.
Clients often comment on how much warmer, calmer, and more inviting the space feels. While massage techniques matter most, the environment plays a huge role in helping clients relax before the session even begins.

As massage therapists, we spend so much time focusing on our clients that we sometimes forget about our own comfort too.
On top of that I added anti fatigue mats for extra comfort
I wish I had started using much earlier . Standing for hours on hard floors can take a toll on your feet, knees, hips, and lower back over time. A quality anti-fatigue mat can make a noticeable difference during long workdays and help reduce wear and tear on your body.

Small changes add upβ€”for your clients and for your career longevity.

🦡 Piriformis Syndrome vs Sciatica: How to Tell the Difference

Pain in the buttock or down the leg is often called "sciatica," but the cause isn't always that simple.

While true sciatica involves irritation of the sciatic nerve, piriformis syndrome can create very similar symptoms. Understanding the difference may help you make better decisions about treatment, exercise, and recovery.

In this new article, you'll learn:

βœ… The biggest clues that help tell the difference

βœ… When symptoms may suggest nerve involvement

βœ… Common assessment findings

βœ… Treatment approaches that may help

βœ… Why focusing only on where it hurts can sometimes be misleading

One of the biggest lessons I've learned over the years is that pain doesn't always tell us where the problem started.

The goal is to understand what the body may be protectingβ€”not just where it hurts.
