After 16 months away, they’re finally home! ❤️🤍💙

When a fire displaced 90 veterans from the Command Sergeant Major Benny G. Adkins State Veterans Home, our HealthPro Heritage therapy team went with them.

For 16 months, our therapists continued caring for these veterans at their temporary home, helping them stay active, independent, and connected through an incredibly challenging time.

We’re celebrating their homecoming and the dedicated team who stood by them every step of the way. 💙

And there’s more to this story. A special friendship formed between one veteran and one of our therapists during their time away. We can’t wait to share it with you.

After 16 months away, the veterans of Command Sergeant Major Benny G. Atkins State Veterans Home are finally home! 🇺🇸

When a fire displaced 90 residents in April 2025, our HealthPro Heritage therapy team stayed by their side, continuing care at a temporary location and helping residents maintain their mobility, independence, and connection to one another.

For more than a year, our clinicians showed up with the same dedication, compassion, and commitment to the veterans in their care, despite the challenges of displacement.

We couldn't be prouder of this team 🥹 and the extraordinary care they provided throughout this journey. We're also grateful for the partnership of the veterans home's leadership and staff, who worked together to support residents until they could return home.

And there's one story from this journey we can't wait to share. We recently heard how one of our therapists formed a remarkable connection with a veteran, helping him rediscover something meaningful from his past.

October’s Ready, Set, Holidays focus is all about balance and strength.

Our therapy teams are helping residents build the stability, strength, and confidence they need for the season ahead through Active Aging activities, education, and fun Halloween-themed exercises.

During Rehab Awareness Week, a leader at Sunrise on Old Meridian shared a comment about physical therapist Allison Spaeth that captured the value of having a trusted therapy partner onsite:

“Having someone I can completely trust to lead a quality program gives me the opportunity to devote that time to other resident needs, while knowing our residents are receiving excellent instruction and care.”

As part of her work in the community, Allison helps lead SilverSneakers, where residents are staying active, building strength and maintaining their mobility.

❤️ Ageless Abilities helps care teams and loved ones better understand how a person communicates, what they enjoy and how they can stay involved in meaningful activities.

🏘️ Designing for Dignity helps communities adjust the environment to reduce overwhelm and support greater comfort and engagement.
Both programs are built around a simple idea: care should reflect the person in front of us.
