🚑 **A NEW LOOK FOR HUNTINGDON AMBULANCE AUTHORITY!** 🚑

Over the past few weeks, the crew at Huntingdon Ambulance Authority has been busy giving our station a much-needed facelift! If you’ve driven past the station recently and noticed ambulances parked outside, or some of our staff hanging out in the bay, now you know why! 😁

We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to remodel and improve our station — and we couldn’t have done it without the incredible support of our community.

A **HUGE thank you** goes out to the many local businesses and individuals who donated materials, supplies, time, and resources to help make this project possible.

🎨 **Walmart Huntingdon** — thank you for donating paint and helping us give the station a fresh new look!

🧱 **Specialty Coatings** — thank you for your generous donation of flooring!

🔨 **Mike Martin Contracting** — thank you for going above and beyond by donating your time, materials, labor, and flooring. Your generosity has made a tremendous difference!

🚑 **Our HAA staff** — thank you to everyone who donated materials, volunteered your time, and pitched in wherever needed — all while continuing to provide emergency and medical services to our community. Your dedication does not go unnoticed!

🔥 **Huntingdon Regional Fire & Rescue** — a very special THANK YOU for allowing us to utilize your day room while our station was undergoing its much-needed facelift. Your willingness to help us during this project meant a lot to our organization!

We still have a few things to finish up here and there, but we’re slowly getting there, and we’re excited to see our station coming together! 🏠✨

This remodel is more than just new paint and flooring — it’s an investment in the people who work here and in the community we’re proud to serve.

🚨🚑 **KNOW BEFORE YOU NEED IT: CALLING 9-1-1 & YIELDING TO EMERGENCY VEHICLES** 🚑🚨

When an emergency happens, seconds matter. Knowing what to do when calling **9-1-1** and when you see an ambulance, fire truck, or police vehicle approaching can help keep everyone safe.

📞 **WHEN CALLING 9-1-1:**

Stay calm and clearly tell the dispatcher:

📍 **WHERE you are** — Give the address, road name, intersection, landmarks, or other location information.

📱 **YOUR PHONE NUMBER** — In case the dispatcher needs to call you back.

🚨 **WHAT IS HAPPENING** — Tell them what happened and what type of emergency you're dealing with.

👥 **HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE INVOLVED** — If known, provide the number of patients or people in danger.

🩺 **IMPORTANT DETAILS** — Tell the dispatcher about serious injuries, unconscious patients, difficulty breathing, fires, hazards, weapons, or anything else responders need to know.

⚠️ **DO NOT HANG UP** until the 9-1-1 dispatcher tells you to. They may need additional information or may give you instructions while help is on the way.

🚑 **WHEN YOU SEE EMERGENCY LIGHTS & HEAR SIRENS:**

# # # **PULL TO THE RIGHT — AND STOP.**

This is one of the most important things we want every driver to remember.

🚨 **DO NOT keep driving alongside the ambulance.**

🚨 **DO NOT stop in the middle of the road.**

🚨 **DO NOT try to "beat" the emergency vehicle through an intersection.**

🚨 **DO NOT assume that slowing down is enough.**

👉 **PULL AS FAR TO THE RIGHT AS SAFELY POSSIBLE AND STOP.**

In Pennsylvania, **75 Pa.C.S. § 3325** requires drivers, upon the immediate approach of an emergency vehicle using its audible and visual signals, to yield the right-of-way, move as close as possible to the right-hand edge or curb of the roadway, clear of an intersection, **AND STOP until the emergency vehicle has passed**—unless directed otherwise by an authorized person.

🛑 **YES — STOPPING IS PART OF THE LAW.**

If you're approaching an intersection and hear sirens, don't enter the intersection simply because your light is green. Stop and allow the emergency vehicle to safely get through.

🚑 **WHY DOES STOPPING MATTER?**

When we're responding to an emergency, we're watching for:

🚗 Vehicles changing lanes
🚙 Drivers pulling out in front of us
🚶 Pedestrians
🚦 Intersections
🚘 Vehicles turning unexpectedly

A vehicle that continues moving—even slowly—can make it much harder for an ambulance or fire truck to safely maneuver around traffic.

**The few seconds it takes for you to pull over and STOP could make a difference in our response—and ultimately in someone's life.**

Huntingdon Ambulance Authority has decided to join in on the Star of Life Challenge!

The **Star of Life** is the internationally recognized symbol of Emergency Medical Services. Each of its six points represents a different stage of emergency care:

**Detection • Reporting • Response • On-Scene Care • Care in Transit • Transfer to Definitive Care**

We’re proud to represent EMS and the dedicated providers who answer the call every day to serve their communities.

Huntingdon Ambulance is challenging Bedford Area Ambulance & Educational Institute and STAT MedEvac 11 to keep the star going! ⭐️🚑

Since we have a medic student in the picture with us, Chris is also challenging his classmates to do it as well!

🍂🚑 **FALL SAFETY FROM HUNTINGDON AMBULANCE** 🚑🍂

Fall is here! Cooler temperatures, changing leaves, bonfires, hunting season, and shorter days all bring their own safety concerns.

A few reminders:

🔦 Carry a flashlight when walking outside after dark.

🍁 Wet leaves can become surprisingly slippery—watch your footing!

🔥 Keep bonfires and fire pits a safe distance from structures, trees, and anything combustible.

🚗 Watch for pedestrians, especially children, during evening hours.

🧥 Dress appropriately for changing temperatures.

🏠 As the weather gets colder, make sure smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are working properly.

🧯 Keep fire extinguishers accessible and know how to use them.

🚨 And as always, if an emergency occurs, **call 911**.

🫁 **HUMAN BODY FUN FACT!**

Your lungs contain approximately **300 million tiny air sacs called alveoli**!

These tiny structures provide a huge surface area for oxygen to move into your bloodstream and carbon dioxide to leave it.

Every breath is a pretty amazing process! 🫁

🔥🌙 **BONFIRE & FIRE PIT SAFETY** 🌙🔥

Cooler weather means bonfires, fire pits, and gathering around the fire with family and friends. Before you light it up, take a few minutes to make sure everyone stays safe!

🔥 **Keep a Safe Distance:** Keep children and pets away from the fire and establish a clear safety zone.

💧 **Keep Water Nearby:** Have a hose, bucket of water, or other appropriate means of extinguishing the fire readily available.

🪵 **Watch What You Burn:** Only burn appropriate materials. Never burn gasoline, aerosol cans, pressurized containers, or other hazardous materials.

👕 **Watch Loose Clothing:** Loose sleeves, jackets, and other clothing can catch fire quickly. Keep them away from open flames.

🍺 **Stay Alert:** Alcohol and fire don't mix. Make sure someone remains responsible for monitoring the fire.

🌬️ **Check Conditions:** Wind can quickly spread embers and turn a small fire into a dangerous situation. If conditions aren't safe, don't light it.

🚫 **Never Leave It Unattended:** A fire isn't out just because the flames are gone. Thoroughly extinguish it with water and make sure the coals are cool before leaving.

⚠️ **If someone catches fire:** Remember **STOP, DROP & ROLL.** If someone is seriously burned, call **911** and cool the burn with clean, running water while waiting for help.

🔥 A few minutes of preparation can prevent a lifetime of consequences.

Would your family know what to do if someone suddenly became seriously ill?
Take a few minutes to:
📍 Make sure your house number is clearly visible.�📱 Make sure everyone knows to call 911 during an emergency.�💊 Keep an updated medication list.�🩺 Know important medical conditions and allergies for household members.�🚪 Make sure emergency responders can easily access your home.�🐕 Secure pets if EMS needs to enter your home.
And one more important thing:
Teach your kids how to call 911.
They should know their name, address/location, and how to explain what is happening.
🚑 You never know when a few minutes of preparation could make a difference.

Cold weather means we're turning the heat back on — so let's do it safely!
Before using your furnace, fireplace, or space heater:
🔥 Have heating systems inspected when appropriate.�🔥 Keep anything that can burn away from heaters.�🔥 Never use an oven or grill to heat your home.�🔥 Make sure smoke alarms are working.�🔥 Have working carbon monoxide detectors.�🔥 Keep portable heaters on a stable surface and away from children and pets.
⚠️ Carbon monoxide is colorless and odorless.
If a carbon monoxide alarm sounds, get outside into fresh air and call 911.
A few minutes of preparation can prevent a tragedy.
