We had such a great time tonight at the Big Brothers Big Sisters “Kids in White Coats” event! 🩺🤍🥼

Surgical residents, Drs. Edah, Reeves, and Kimble, brought their expertise to the Boo Boo Bison station, where guests got to see suturing techniques, test their own skills with the classic Operation game, and follow along with their very own “medical records” — complete with sticker and stamp stations! 🩹🩺

We loved sharing a little bit of surgery, a lot of fun, and plenty of smiles with these future healthcare heroes! P.S. We are happy to report that Boo Boo Bison made a complete recovery thanks to the excellent care he received! ❤️‍🩹 🦬 👩‍⚕️✨

🐾 In Memory of Rogue 🐾

Rogue, a beloved Leonberger and therapy dog, visited our residents many times over the years, bringing with him an incredible ability to make people smile. ❤️

Rogue recently passed away, and we wanted to honor his memory in a way that reflects the joy he brought to so many.

On September 30, as part of our wellness initiatives, our residents will spend the morning volunteering at the Huntington Cabell Wayne Animal Shelter, helping care for the animals and supporting the staff who work tirelessly to give them a second chance. We’ll also share lunch with the shelter team as a small thank-you for all they do.

If you’d like to help us honor Rogue, we’ll be collecting donations through the day of our volunteer event. The shelter’s needs include treats, food, puppy pads, leashes, and toys. You can contribute in whatever way feels right to you or choose an item from our Amazon Wish List. https://www.amazon.com/registries/gl/guest-view/38UAKIW18ZJ2U?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_ggr-subnav-share_H1VCB97B176YQLY1J0DD

We are especially grateful to the Mallory family for sharing Rogue with us and allowing him to bring his special kind of joy to our residents, as you can see in the smiles in these photos over the years. We know how deeply loved he was, and we’re thankful that so many of us had the privilege of knowing him. ❤️🐾

A New Year. A New Chapter. Same Marshall Family. 💚

Before we said goodbye to our graduating residents and welcomed our newest interns, we captured some last photos of the 2025–2026 team together.

Now, some are beginning fellowship, others are continuing their journey at Marshall, and a new group has joined us at the start of theirs.

Different faces. Different chapters. Always one Marshall General Surgery family. 🍃

A special thank-you to our amazing photographer, Sholten, for capturing this and so many other incredible moments and photos that we’ll treasure for years to come! 📸✨

Donuts & Birthday Celebrations! 🍩🎉

What’s a better way to celebrate our Chairman and APD’s birthday than with a mini donut bar featuring fresh, warm donuts?!

Our residents and faculty enjoyed a sweet morning treat as we celebrated a very special member of our General Surgery family. We’re grateful for all he does for our program, our residents, and our department, and we hope his birthday was as sweet as these donuts! ❤️

Happy Birthday, Dr. Denning! 🎂🍩🎈

🩷 Growing as Surgeons—and Leaders! 🩷

We’re proud of PGY-2 residents Drs. Aishwarya Vijay and Yumi Yokota, who recently attended the 6th Annual Cleveland Clinic Professional Development Program for Women General Surgery Residents!

This 1½-day program brought together women surgical residents from across the country for meaningful conversations and practical guidance on professional development, career planning, leadership, teaching, research, fellowship, and navigating the unique challenges of a career in surgery.

We’re grateful for opportunities like this that support our residents not only in becoming excellent surgeons, but also in developing the confidence, connections, and leadership skills to build fulfilling careers in surgery.

Way to represent Marshall General Surgery Residency, Drs. Vijay and Yokota! 🌟💚🩺

Learning From Our Ortho Colleagues 🦴💪

A big thank you to our Orthopedic Surgery residents for hosting a splinting in-service for our residents. It was a great opportunity to build practical skills, learn from our colleagues, and get some hands-on experience with a variety of splinting techniques.

And a special shout-out to Dr. Giangrosso, our Chief Resident and very good sport, for volunteering to be the patient! 👏

We love seeing our residents learn with and from one another across specialties. That kind of collaboration makes all of us better physicians! 🌟💚🩺

Every residency program needs a superhero… and we’ve found ours! 🕷️🍿🎬

A huge thank you to Dr. Thompson for treating our residents, staff, and their guests to a private theater showing of the new Spider-Man: Brand New Day in 3D! From the theater rental and tickets to the popcorn, candy, and drinks, it was the perfect evening to relax, recharge, and enjoy time together outside the hospital.

Thank you, Dr. Thompson, for always going above and beyond for our residency family. Your generosity never goes unnoticed! 🕸️

🎉 In honor of a certain famous young wizard's birthday, our residents kicked off the academic year with a little magic of their own!

Our new PGY-1 residents were "sorted" into houses to begin this year's EPA House Challenge—a fun, friendly competition designed to encourage completion of the American Board of Surgery's Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) throughout the year.

Of course, no birthday celebration or sorting ceremony would be complete without delicious butterbeer-inspired cupcakes! 🧁✨

Here's to teamwork, friendly competition, another year of surgical excellence, and earning extra funds for the residents' educational book fund accounts. Let the EPA House Challenge begin! ⚔️🏥

Passing it forward! 🪡👏

Two of our General Surgery residents recently volunteered with Project PREMED, leading a hands-on suturing session for aspiring physicians. We received very positive feedback from the attendees, who appreciated the residents' enthusiasm, patience, and willingness to share their skills and experiences. We are so proud of their commitment to teaching, mentoring, and inspiring the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Thank you, Drs. Ian Wagner (PGY2) and Nathan Fox (PGY1) for representing our program with excellence—and for reminding us that great surgeons are also great teachers. 💚🩺🌟
