I was a true cardio bunny for a long time, thinking that the only way I could maintain a healthy weight was by running (good thing I enjoyed running!). But now I know that running can increase your cortisol and inflammation if you aren't careful. That by no means implies that you should quit running! Strength training can not only improve your running form and prevent injuries, but also increases your fat-free mass and increases your caloric burn during rest.

Now that school is out, I'm trying to prep and freeze a new Ninja Creami flavor each week. I have recently become OBSESSED with Biscoff cookie butter and I found the BEST way to incorporate it into a high protein, delicious pint of ice cream (spoiler alert: I also never add protein powder so it's not chalky). I have a little story about how this brand of chocolate chips saved my life. For years, I kept regular chocolate chips in the pantry for baking (my daughter actually has the BEST recipe for chocolate chip cookies). However, with my high cortisol, my sugar cravings were through the roof. I would eat a tablespoon of chocolate chips and that would lead to taking another almost every time I went through the kitchen! When I finally understood that high cortisol was the cause of my sugar cravings, I started making a concerted effort to cut back on sugar. If you have seen the pumpkin chocolate chip pancake bowl I eat for breakfast every morning, you know that chocolate chips are obviously a big draw to that recipe for me (interested in the recipe? Comment below and I'll share). I switched to Lily's just to try to cut down on sugar. Guess what? Once I did that, I wasn't reaching for more every time I went through the kitchen. AND-I don't miss the regular chocolate chips, these still taste amazing! My sugar cravings as a whole have decreased and I am finally making noticeable forward progress in my body recomposition goal.

Great news! I am now a certified personal trainer! What does that mean for Creekside clients?

I have been a certified trainer on and off for the last 20 years, not to mention that I routinely make exercise plans for others. However, this gives me the credentials to do this on a larger scale. I am excited to announce the launch of my At Home Support service. Whether you are trying to implement an exercise plan without stepping into a gym, want to create a sensory-friendly area for yourself (and/or others in your family), or simply need some one-on-one help with organizing tasks, I have a service to meet those needs. Well I haven't gotten my pool day yet, but I'm excited to hop on the dirty soda trend this summer. Unfortunately, someone in my house drank my last Dr. Pepper Zero Coconut Cream, but half of a cherry lime ICE, half of a vanilla protein shake, and ice in a fancy cup gives me a treat that fits into my health goals. You don't need to miss out on fun trends just because you are trying to meet your goals, these are super customizable:

1) Watching calories? Use a diet or Zero soda (or Sparkling ICE-this one is 5 calories for the whole bottle!) or add more ice.
2) Need to prioritize protein? Use a protein shake or a Core shake
3) Can't do dairy? Try any nut milk or coconut cream!
4) Need to watch your caffeine intake? Use a caffeine-free soda or a Sparkling ICE.

Maybe the rain will stop soon so I can enjoy this poolside while reading my book 🤞
