Have you started school yet? What are your hopes and concerns for your children? How do they feel? This week's blog features my children's hopes and fears for this school year and the actions we're taking.

I don’t know how your family is, but mine always hits a point in May when summer break can’t come soon enough. This year, that was especially accurate: we finished AP exams, regular exams, eighth-…

I worked with a client this weekend who desperately wants a new job. Doing so would fundamentally change not only his mental health, but physical and financial health. But the steps to apply, follow-up on leads, interview, follow-up, and repeat are enough to keep him from trying because it's so overwhelming.

That's where I come in. It's not a motivation problem, it's an executive function, nervous system wiring problem. Whether it's a new job, a relocation, or a major life milestone,I can help you break everything down, create a system to stay organized, and cheer you on along the way!

The first full week of school can be extra exhausting, especially on neurodivergent kids. It's a lot to adjust to: new schedules, new noises, new routines.

But guess which students gave me the biggest hugs last week? My ND ones. One with anxiety. One with dyslexia who usually doesn't say two words to me, but walked halfway across the gym just to give me a big hug. I even had a ND alum stop by and requested to see me.

Sometimes it's more than strategies; it's about being in that child's corner ALL the time; not just when things are going well. It's about believing in them and telling them that "they've got this" before they believe it themselves.

And what better way to illustrate this than a picture of the man who believed in me as a teacher LOOONNNNGGGG before I saw it in myself, loving on my young son and letting him be him and making him feel special because he was chosen to bring the balls in.

My son kicked off his second cross country season last week. As a former cross country coach, I am thrilled that one of my kids decided to pursue it. My son is very thoughtful and I've been able to train him to look at each race with the lens of "what went well?" and "what needs to be tweaked?"

This philosophy is the foundation of my health coaching practice. In today's society, we are so quick to be perfect or a failure. But the truth is, to improve your health, you need to make PROGRESS. You didn't work out 3 times a week, but you made it once? Progress. You set a goal of bringing your lunch 4 times per week but only did it twice? Progress.

If you are ready to work with someone who can help you see the forest through the trees and create a plan that's made just for you, I'm here for you!

Bringing a balanced lunch everyday was one step I took on my health journey. Little steps = big results!

If you frequently find yourself overwhelmed and stressed during the day, it is very likely that it's waking you up in the middle of the night. If you consistently wake up between 2-4 am, it's probably due to high cortisol, or stress hormones.

Soooo after years of urging students and parents to invest in planners, my sons aren't doing it this year. They never used them, could never find them, and relied on the school's LMS system to see their homework. So we're done.

BUT....they don't get away without having a system. We are trying a plain legal pad to keep in the front of their binder to write assignments down. Maybe it will work, maybe it won't, but we aren't going to test the definition of insanity this year. My daughter, on the other hand, already bought a planner for herself (I use one too).

If you have something that works great for your ADHD child, drop it in the comments!
