There was a time when I believed every opportunity was something I should pursue.
Every invitation.
Every project.
Every request.
Every open door.
I thought success meant saying yes. But experience has taught me something different. Not every opportunity is my assignment.
Some opportunities are distractions disguised as possibilities. Some are rooted in obligation rather than purpose. Some are simply meant for someone else.
One of the greatest lessons of midlife is learning the difference between what is available and what is aligned. Just because I can do something doesn't mean I should.
I've learned to pause before committing and ask myself:
* Does this align with my values?
* Does this support the season I'm in?
* Will this nourish me or deplete me?
* Am I saying yes out of purpose or pressure?
The truth is, every yes requires an investment of time, energy, and attention. And those resources are too valuable to spend carelessly. Today, I trust myself enough to decline what isn't mine to carry.
Because every time I say no to what is not my assignment, I create space for what truly is. And that kind of wisdom feels like freedom.
✨ Not every opportunity is your assignment.
✨ Not every open door is your destination.
✨ Discernment is a form of self-care.
