Acupuncture during pregnancy can be very safe if you are seeing the right type of provider.
Many medical professionals offer “dry needling” which has its place in the modern world, but what these professionals are not trained in is pregnancy and actual acupuncture.
Acupuncture is a thousand-year-old tradition that treats hundreds of ailments by treating the source of the issue.
There are very strong acupuncture points on the body that can induce labor, turn a breach baby, and treat pregnancy related conditions. The down side to this is if you are seeing someone who is only familiar with “dry needling” they can accidently needle labor inducting points, and this is something you definitely do not want until the time is right.
My suggestion is to always make sure you are seeing a licensed Acupuncturist for your appointments. We spend 4 years on top of a bachelor’s degree (6 years total) learning how to use this medicine properly. Always make sure the person you are seeing is licensed to do what they are doing.
