Yesterday, our seniors received their “official” WCA scrubs! This is always such an exciting day for them and marks one step closer to clinicals. We’re proud of their hard work and can’t wait to see them put their skills into practice!

Thank you, Senator Gudger!

Mr. Jeff Scott, Superintendent of Winston County Schools, announced that the Alabama State Department of Education awarded a $ 5 million Career Tech Center Grant to the Winston County Board of Education and the Winston Career Academy, in partnership with Bevil State Community College.
We would like to thank Senate Pro Tem Garlan Gudger for his help in securing the grant. We are blessed to have him working on behalf of Winston County Schools.

That’s a wrap for WLA 2026! ❤️🤍💙🇺🇸🇺🇸

What an incredible few days in Washington, D.C.! Our Alabama HOSA State Officers, Mrs. Becky and their advisors, wrapped up their final day of the Washington Leadership Academy on Capitol Hill, where they had the opportunity to put their leadership skills into action. They met with staff from Congressman Robert Aderholt’s office and Senator Katie Britt’s office to advocate for Career and Technical Education, and the funding needed to prepare the next generation of healthcare professionals. They also shared how HOSA is helping build the pipeline of future healthcare workers at a time when our communities are facing critical workforce shortages.

This is what HOSA is all about, giving students a voice, developing leaders, and showing them that they can make a difference far beyond the walls of their classrooms. I was so proud to watch our Alabama officers confidently speak about the importance of CTE and HOSA and represent students from across our state.

In between our meetings we were able to tour the U.S. Capitol. After a few unexpected delays, our flight home may have been a little later than planned, but we made it home safely late last night with lots of memories, new friendships, and experiences these students will carry with them for years to come.

WLA 2026 is officially a wrap! We are incredibly proud of these young leaders and excited to see how they take everything they learned in Washington back home and use it to make an impact. ❤️🤍💙

Another special part of today was getting to meet Halynn Seo from the Northern Mariana Islands!

Halynn started the very first HOSA chapter at Saipan International School and traveled 25 hours to attend WLA in Washington, D.C.! ✈️🇺🇸

Our Alabama HOSA State Officers were so excited to meet her and hear a little about her story. This is what HOSA is all about! You quickly realize that we are part of something so much bigger than just our own school or state. HOSA truly connects future health professionals from all across the country and beyond! 🩺💙❤️

WLA Day 3 Recap 🇺🇸💙

Today we started off with a morning full of leadership sessions! Aubrey spent time with the State Officers while Mrs. Hamby attended advisor sessions, including a great session on building community support for our HOSA chapter. Aubrey, Mrs. Hamby and Connor are coming away from these conferences with new ideas that they can bring back home and use to continue growing our HOSA chapter.

After the morning sessions, we headed to Pentagon City Mall for lunch and then traveled to Arlington National Cemetery. There is truly something humbling about being there and seeing firsthand the sacrifice represented by so many who have served our country. One of the most special moments of the day was watching our HOSA IEC President and President-Elect lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. It was such a powerful and moving experience and definitely one of those moments we will never forget. Standing there, surrounded by so much history and sacrifice, was incredibly meaningful.

We returned to the hotel for dinner, followed by an advocacy session, team time, and a social activity to finish out another very full day. These days have been long and busy, but they have been filled with learning, leadership, new friendships, and experiences we will remember long after we leave Washington, D.C.

🇺🇸 HOSA WLA Day 2 Recap! 🇺🇸

Aubrey, Mrs. Hamby and the Alabama state officer team/advisors, started their morning with leadership sessions, learning, growing, and connecting with HOSA members and advisors from across the country. Then it was time to head out and experience some of the history of Washington, D.C.!

We spent the afternoon exploring the National Mall, visiting the National Museum of Natural History, the National Museum of American History, and the National Archives. There is just something special about getting to see so much of our nation’s history in person. After all that walking, we enjoyed a much-needed and delicious dinner at Carmine’s before heading back out for our D.C. Monument Twilight Tour.

We visited the World War II Memorial, Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Franklin D. Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt Memorial, Washington Monument, and the Reflecting Pool. Seeing these places at night made the experience even more beautiful and memorable.

It was another LONG day with lots of walking, lots of learning, plenty of laughs, and memories that we will carry home with us. I’m so thankful for opportunities like WLA that allow our students to learn outside the classroom, experience history firsthand, and grow as leaders. WLA Day 2 = tired feet, full hearts, and memories made! And we aren’t finished yet… Day 3 to come!

WLA Day 1 Recap! 🇺🇸

What a FULL first day in Washington, D.C.! ❤️🤍💙

We spent the morning exploring Georgetown and Georgetown University, and of course, no trip to Georgetown would be complete without stopping for some famous Georgetown Cupcakes! 🧁😋

After our morning of exploring (and cupcakes!), we headed back to the hotel for registration and some networking before it was time to hit the ground running. We attended our opening sessions, participated in leadership sessions, met HOSA members from across the country, and started soaking in everything the Washington Leadership Academy has to offer.
By the end of the day, we were definitely tired, but so thankful for the opportunity to be here, learn, grow, and represent Alabama HOSA and Winston Career Academy! 💙🩺

After a VERY long day, we finally got some much-needed rest because Day 2 is waiting! 🇺🇸✨
