Fair Haven Foundation Sharing Christ's love through compassionate housing for seriously-ill patients and their families.

Fair Haven Foundation serves seriously-ill patients and their families who have traveled from around the world to receive critical medical care in Indianapolis. Patients are provided a home-away-from-home through fully-furnished apartments free of cost near downtown hospitals. Fair Haven was founded in 2007 by Amanda Milner, who survived a cancer diagnosis at the age of 30, with support from her f

riends and family, and now she’s paying it forward. Fair Haven’s mission is sharing the love of Jesus Christ by providing not just housing, but compassionate support to patients and their families in their time of need.

The positive effect that a delicious meal, homecooked and offered freely, has on someone at the end of a long day cannot be understated. One the very best ways for you to step into a window of hope with our guests is by providing a meal at Ada's Place. Families tell us that these meals mean so much to them!

The process is simple: Show up with your group of friends, family, co-workers, church family, or any other social group, show love to our guests by feeding them dinner that you either bring with you or cook here, and leave the families feeling cared for, encouraged, and well fed!

There are plenty of opportunities coming up to provide a meal here, and you can get all the details about providing a meal at the 🔗 in our profile.

Meet Terri, who is part of the team bringing the Parisian Market to life!

"I love this mission, I like that it is a local foundation, and the lodging and spiritual support Fair Haven provides is so needed in our community. I support and promote the Parisian Market for all those reasons; plus it is so beautifully presented thanks to those creative designers."

"I’ve met such nice people there and made new friends…one of the reasons I volunteer with Fair Haven! I’ve been involved for enough years now to see the exciting progress and growth that Fair Haven has experienced."

Thank you Terri and all those who put this unique event together! Fair Haven's Parisian Market is October 2-3 and serves as a unique way for the public to support families experiencing a tough medical journey far from home. Angel does not complicate things when she talks about her marriage. “I like my husband,” she says. “I wouldn’t give him back for nothing.”

For 30 years, that simple truth has shaped everything. John worked hard providing for his family. He spent the last 15 years as a truck driver, often gone for weeks at a time. Angel held things together at home, raising their three children and managing everything else.

It was a quiet kind of love. No chaos. No drama. Just consistency.

Then one morning, everything changed. John didn’t answer his phone.

Read the rest of John and Angel's incredible story, including how Angel found a community of encouragement more than a 1,000 miles from home during her 5-month stay at Fair Haven, at https://fairhavenfoundation.org/story/standing-by-her-man/

We are celebrating this incredible moment last week when Fair Haven guest Dale Conner was able to meet his stem cell donor in person! What an incredible connection made possible by the great team over at IU Health. What a great community to be a part of here!

Grant Mooney said the day he donated his stem cells was the best day of his life. He didn’t know at the time there were more celebrations to follow.

Rueben has faced cancer more than once, and he talks about it with a steady, grounded confidence that comes from years of choosing faith while walking through the unknown.

“I never believed I was done. Even when I heard the word cancer, I never thought that was the end of my story,” he said. “God is good, all the time. If He brought me to it, He’s going to bring me through it.”

After being diagnosed with prostate cancer, Rueben was facing surgery at the IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center in Indianapolis, more than 100 miles from his home in Robinson, Illinois. He and his wife Chelsey and their three children planned to travel together as a family. But the obstacles were overwhelming.

“We didn’t even know how we were going to get there,” Rueben said. “Rides were falling through, insurance wasn’t confirmed until the morning we were supposed to leave. It felt like everything was breaking down.”

Read the rest of Rueben's story of faith and perseverance, including how God came through for them at every step of the journey and what his kids had to say about staying at Ada's Place at Fair Haven, at https://fairhavenfoundation.org/story/still-carrying-us-through/

For most of her life, Paula kept moving.

As a truck driver, long days were normal. Twelve to fourteen hours behind the wheel, pushing through fatigue, getting the job done. But over time, something started to shift. The exhaustion felt different. Heavier. Walking from the couch to the kitchen left her out of breath. Even small, everyday movements became difficult.

Her daughter noticed first. Worried about diabetes because of their family history, she urged Paula to get checked. Paula agreed, expecting something manageable.

Instead, just days after her appointment, the call came. Her hemoglobin was dangerously low. She needed to go to the emergency room immediately and was told not to drive herself.

STAFFING UPDATE: Today marks the last day at Fair Haven for Emily Alfs, our Operations Manager since 2021. We are grateful for the influence she has had on so many here at Fair Haven, and we wish her all the best as she starts a new chapter of life in Florida!

Read below for a note from Emily and a note from Amanda Milner, Fair Haven's Founder & Executive Director:

A note from Amanda:

"It's with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Emily as she and her husband Zach start a new chapter of their lives in Florida! Emily has served on staff at Fair Haven as an Operations Manager since Ada's Place opened in 2021. Over the past 5 years, so many of our guests have been welcomed by her friendly face and blessed by her kindness and compassion! She has been such an incredible part of the operations team that works so hard to keep our facility clean and beautiful and ready to welcome hundreds of families each year. We will miss her dearly! Join us in praying for Emily and Zach as they begin this new season! Be sure to comment here to share your love and your memories!"

A note from Emily:

"It has been an honor and a privilege to serve our guests for nearly 5 years. Working for Fair Haven Foundation has fundamentally changed who I am today. Every guest who has walked through our door has left a profound and lasting mark on my heart, and I will carry each of their stories with me forever.

Thank you for the countless moments that reminded me of the strength of human connection. While this chapter is coming to a close for me, the mission of Fair Haven will continue to change lives, provide comfort, and bring hope to families for years to come!

With great love and gratitude,

Emily"
