Why we are shocked when prayers are answered immediately is crazy. Our favorite canine companion, Hadley was walking down the hall straight towards Ava‘s room about five minutes after her port access. We are so thankful for little blessings.

This morning was a rough access for her port. It took a couple tries and it hurt her. I made sure the nurses knew that Ava rarely cries even when she’s in pain. As a parent, we just wish we could take her place every day 😭
Hopefully we can make her happy tonight. One more day 1️⃣ 🙏🏼

Day 2 ✅
Ava struggles taking the oral chemo so we bribed her with a trip to the cat cafe in Covington, KY! Who knew that an hour of cuddling tiny kittens would produce such a cortisol decrease and seratonin increase, but here we are. Ready to take on day 3 like the champ she is. 🐈 💛

Different city, same Ava. Just when you think she has had enough, her resilience shines through. Our oncologist mentioned yet again how impressed he is with her mental toughness. So are we 🥹💛. Another long first day of a cycle completed. 4 to go. 💪🏼

Cycle 4. Labs are great and she is able to get all the chemo and targeted therapy today. Monday is always the long day with 3 to 4 different nausea meds, labs, and the trial med. It still feels crazy that we settle into these patterns of treatment like it’s a normal way of life. This isn’t normal. And it’s hard on Ava. Being tough gets tiring too. 🙏🏼 🎗️

This has been the longest break from driving to Cincinnati that we’ve had so far, but it still feels like it has gone by way too quickly. Ava’s labs have been good the last two weeks although her absolute neutrophils were a little bit low yesterday. If they’re not high enough by Monday, she cannot take the chemotherapy pills again. Only God knows what is best, so in the meantime, we pray. We are so thankful she has felt well enough to do some fun things and we have three more days of opportunity to find things and experiences that make her happy. 🙏🏼💛

3 cycles completed but feels like a hundred already. The clinical trial required a pretty high count of white blood cells in order to take the oral chemo. Ava was so close to making it but just short. The doctor even said her lab numbers are great and the trial requires a pretty high number. For some reason it was not meant to be this time, but we will continue with it for the fourth cycle. She did however get the targeted therapy and the IV chemo.
Thank you again to everyone who has contributed to Ava to help make each trip as easy as possible with a few nice distractions here and there. We were told there is no end to how many cycles she can get. I’ve seen some with 17. That would be 17 weeks gone in a year. Hopefully the next cycle kicks everything out of Ava’s body. Increasing the Jesus talks every day. 🙏🏼💛

2 weeks at home have gone by faster than ever. Cycle 3 begins bright and early tomorrow but here we are at one of our favorite places. Got a sunset ride on diamondback and ready to face the week. Ava climbed a few flights of stairs and braved the heat. But that was nothing compared to what she has already accomplished. Logging off for these 5 days. See you all soon. Prayers requested! 🙏🏼 💪🏼🎢🎗️

MRI, CT scan, and a PET scan over the course of 11 hours with a scanxiety fight every second. Results came trickling in and if you’ve ever had to take a look at something that serious it’s the worst rush you’ll ever get. But a short time later, our doctor at Cincinnati called us with a conversation starter, “ I wanted to call you before I leave with great news”…
Ava has no new disease and all spots on her lungs have decreased in size. They are still there and only God knows how many more cycles this will take. But the doctors were hoping for stable and her body is actually improving. We had strict orders to celebrate tonight. If only he knew we celebrate every precious second these days. Thank you Jesus, for providing peace through your perfect plan. 🙏🏼💛
