Today, we signed off on a phase 2 clinical trial for Ava in Cincinnati. It’s a targeted therapy combined with 2 types of chemo that has shown good response in another study. She is not thrilled about getting her 3rd port 😢. We will be making the 2 hour commute very often for scans and labs on top of the 5 day outpatient cycles. There is a minimum of 2 cycles starting as early as June 29. Our next steps are to get the pet scan and port surgery asap so we can plan when treatment will start. The next couple of months will be a challenge with driving and living out of hotels. The Ronald McDonald House does not seem like an option that Ava wants. After 3 summers of inpatient stays a week at a time, her mental health needs a break from sleeping in or near a hospital. We just hope this works. Please keep Ava in all the prayers

Ava just might have the toughest mindset of anyone I’ve ever met. Of course she’s bummed about the scans, but she just keeps on keeping on. We have several options to discuss and our thoughts will most likely be taken over by this decision during the next couple days. Praying we make the best one with and for our girl. We could travel or stay local, but one thing that is certain-we will drop everything for this kiddo 🙏🏼🫶🏼💛

After talking to our oncologist, the doctors believe the disease is back in Ava’s lungs. The MRI showed no new disease in her leg, hip or stomach. We will be meeting next week to discuss options. We had a wonderful weekend away and have decided to give Ava one more weekend to enjoy before having a conversation about the test results. We know our girl is strong, but this is hard. Chemo and an out of state clinical trial are possibilities. Every day all day, we pray for peace and the ability to live a lifetime of joy as soon as we can, no waiting. Thank you to all who have supported Ava

I know I’ve said this before, but it’s super easy to forget what someone has gone through and is still going through when you don’t go through it yourself.  Three month increments go by more and more quickly. We’re nearing the end of this amazing three months as May 29th scans are starting to peek at us.  Today, Ava had her emotional checkup at Riley, which I recommend for every kid who goes through medical trauma.  Although she has been feeling more and more tired, she has some new goals to look forward to.  We are hoping the new sleepiness is due to all the activity she’s had in the last couple weeks. Please continue to pray that the disease stays away and our girl can continue living life to the fullest. We love you, Ava. You’re the absolute best.  ⭐️ 🩵

No Infection!! Dr Mommy has to pack the wound every day for a week or two 😬
Ava is so relieved. Still tired, but we will take any silver lining 🦋

Back at Riley to check Ava’s surgery wound. There is a spot that has opened. Praying for no infection and as always, to be disease free. She’s got places to be this month 🙏🏼💛🎗️
