Wearing clean lead is about more than comfort or routine, it is about safety at every level.

Lead garments can harbor bacteria and contaminants that may be transferred to patients or patient objects, increasing the risk of SSI’s.

By ensuring your lead is properly cleaned, you are taking an active step in protecting yourself, reducing contamination risks, and safeguarding your patients.

When was the last time your team’s lead was cleaned?

Ringworm in the OR?!

On the latest episode of Culture Positive, RCS Co-Founder Justin McKay tells how wearing a hospital-owned lead apron in the OR gave him...ringworm?!

What started as one rash turned out to be a gap in how hospitals protect their staff and patients. Closing that gap is why RadCare Services exists.

What are biofilms?
Biofilms are a colony of bacteria that sticks to a surface and builds a protective layer around itself. Once they form, a quick wipe with a short contact time mostly slides across the top. The bacteria underneath survive and come back.

That's why our process has two steps. Clean first to physically break up the biofilm, then disinfect kills what's left.

Wipes have a place. They just can't do this job by themselves.

508 garments. 111 tech hours. One exam room offline for 14 business days.

For one Midwest teaching hospital, in-house lead inspection added up to $171,537, or about $338 per garment.

None of it shows up as "lead management." It hides in downtime, in overtime, and in "we'll get to it next quarter."

RCS handles scanning, documentation and audit-ready records, and loaner garments keep your rooms open while we work.

See what your inspection is costing you. Book a scan day.

Patient safety in the OR doesn't happen by accident. It happens because surgical technologists make it happen, every shift, every case, every count.

They're in the room before anyone else arrives. They set the sterile field, prepare the instruments, and build the foundation that every case runs on.

Most people outside the OR don't fully grasp what that job demands. The focus required over a full shift. The weight of knowing that the details you manage directly affect whether a patient goes home healthy.

This week is National Surgical Technologist Week, an annual reminder to say out loud what should be said more often: surgical techs are essential.

To every ST out there: the standard you hold in that room matters. The work you do matters. You're seen this week, and you should be seen every week.

In most facilities, lead garment care means one thing: nothing. Hang it up, wear it, hope for the best.

We built RCS around the opposite idea, that a garment protecting staff and patients from radiation deserves the same rigor as any other piece of clinical equipment.

Lead garments shouldn't be an afterthought. That's why we service them like the safety equipment they are.

Great things happen when radiology leaders get in a room together.

Last week, RadCare Services co-founder Justin McKay joined a group of radiology leaders from across Missouri at a local meeting in St. Louis for a day full of good conversation, shared challenges, and new ideas.

One theme that stuck: the best solutions in healthcare rarely come from working in isolation.

They come from leaders comparing notes, challenging each other's thinking, and learning from what's working (and not working) somewhere else.

Thanks to AHRA, host Glen Stancil, Jess Harju, and everyone who made it a great gathering.

Fifty years old. Over a decade building RCS. One very specific wardrobe.

Yesterday, our team surprised co-founder Justin McKay on his 50th birthday by showing up to the office...as Justin McKay

That's the kind of culture he's built. That's the company we're proud to be.

Happy 50th to the man who started it all. We're grateful for the mission, the culture, and the fashion inspo.

You sterilize the instruments. You wash the hands. You follow the protocol.

But the lead apron that's been on 12 different techs this week? Still on the hook.

X-ray garments are the most-touched, least-cleaned PPE in most OR settings. 84% test positive for Staph aureus and ringworm. And most facilities have no formal program to address it.

That's where we come in. Deep cleaning, x-ray inspection, inventory tracking, all of it managed for you.

If you've closed every other gap in your infection control protocol, this one's worth a conversation.

Labor Day means something a little different in healthcare.

The floors don't just go quiet. The schedules don't pause. The people who chose this work just keep showing up, holiday or not.

To every clinician working today: this one's for you. We're grateful to serve the teams who never stop.

Happy Labor Day!
