April themes of my Flow & Restore yoga class:

🔺️ Raga (attachment) isn't just wanting; it’s the sticky attachment to enjoyable experiences that creates a cycle of craving. When we cling to how things should be, we lose the reality of how they are.

🌹We often turn to vices to fill a void or numb discomfort. Practice is about sitting in the space before the impulse. We aren't judging the vice; we practice the art of Aparigraha (non-attachment) and realize we are whole without it. Intention: I create space within myself for grace to enter.

🌁 In yoga, a bridge isn't just a destination; it’s the connection between two places. As we get older, we aren't leaving our younger selves behind; we are building a bridge, an internal span, that carries wisdom forward. Intention: I am the bridge between my past wisdom and my future growth. I move with the seasons, not against them.

🌳The concept of being steady: not as a rigid state, but as a place of abidance. In the Yoga Sutras, Sthira Sukham Asanam tells us that our posture should be both steady and comfortable. When we are truly steady, we abide in the present moment with a sense of fullness.

🌬Instead of focusing on breaking down walls, we focus on our expansive capacity, creating internal room to breathe, moving from physical tightness of the chest into the vastness of the breath. Intention: I soften my edges to let the light in.

I'm so grateful to have been part of Mostly Well's Galentine's Day event in Austin. I spent quality time with my bestie and sisters, the pups, and met a group of kindhearted women. I loved flower shopping and being out in the sun. 🌞

I taught restorative yoga to the best bunch at the beautiful Amala Sanctuary and got to do Reiki aura cleansing and grounding. ✨️

Everything feels right when the path is aligned. 😍💕

Recent themes of my Flow & Restore yoga classes: Sutra 2.16: Heyam duhkham anagatam (avoiding the suffering that is yet to come), calming the vagus nerve, and leaning into the winter thaw, mentally transitioning from the "frozen" outside world into a state of fluid surrender.

What resonates with me in this moment: Patanjali tells us in the Sutras that change is the nature of life. We often suffer because we try to freeze-frame the world, or we worry about what’s coming around the corner.

As you breathe, notice how each inhale is new, and each exhale is a departure. You cannot hold onto a single breath; to live, you must let it go.

Take a moment to practice letting go right now. Inhale the present, exhale the attachment.

Ishvara Pranidhana: Surrender

I’ve been reading Deborah Adele’s The Yamas & Niyamas and this quote is ringing in my heart.

It’s really hard to allow your body to be open with life happening around us. Information floods our waking mind constantly and the body reacts, it tenses up, and we carry that tension with us. I have to consciously remind myself to breathe deeply and keep my heart and lungs open in order to “surrender.” I’m also attempting to allow my body to react to my thoughts and physically feel my emotions. Sometimes it is an uncomfortable place to sit, but within my Reiki practice, we allow ourselves to live in those moments. Yes, the only way out is through, but there isn’t a set timeframe. It comes in bouts. It’s the beauty of being human.

I’ve been crying a lot lately, and while that may be part of another story, I'm allowing my body to react, have the experience, and be present on my journey. In this moment, this is how I’m interpreting surrender - allowing my body to feel in the moment, relying on useful creature comforts.
