The IMHC is steadfast in the mission it set forth nearly 30 years ago to improve the health of all Indiana residents through education, advocacy, health care access and research.

08/23/2026

For more than 30 years, the Indiana Minority Health Coalition has worked to ensure that communities affected by health disparities are visible, heard and represented.

IMHC serves as a statewide connection point, bringing together local coalitions, community members, healthcare professionals, researchers and policymakers around the shared goal of improving health outcomes throughout Indiana.

That visibility leads to stronger advocacy, better-informed policies, more relevant health education and increased attention to the barriers communities face when accessing care.

As we recognize this legacy of service, IMHC remains focused on the future: strengthening community partnerships and continuing the movement toward health equity for all Indiana residents.

For more than three decades, the Indiana Minority Health Coalition has served as a unified voice for health equity across Indiana.

IMHC was legally incorporated in 1994 following the development of Indiana’s first five-year Minority Health Strategic Plan. Since then, the organization has worked alongside local coalitions, community leaders, healthcare professionals and policymakers to address health disparities through research, education, advocacy and access to care.

As we honor more than 30 years of service, we also recognize the people and communities that made this work possible, and recommit ourselves to the work still ahead.

Did you know one landmark report changed how America talked about minority health?

Released in 1985, the Heckler Report documented approximately 60,000 preventable “excess deaths” each year among Black and other minority populations.

It helped bring national attention to health disparities and inspired decades of action, including the work IMHC continues across Indiana today.

Understanding the history helps us continue the work.

🌈 Eat the Rainbow. Fuel Your Body. Feel the Difference! 🍓🥝🫐🍍🥕
This month, we're focusing on moving our bodies AND nourishing them because healthy movement starts with healthy fuel! 💪✨
According to the Mayo Clinic, no single fruit or vegetable contains all the nutrients your body needs. That's why eating a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables is one of the easiest ways to nourish your body. Each color contains nutrients that help support your overall health.

❤️ Red = Supports heart health
🧡 Orange = Rich in vitamin A to support your immune system and healthy vision
💛 Yellow = Contains antioxidants that help protect healthy cells
💚 Green = Packed with nutrients that support strong bones and muscles
💙💜 Blue & Purple = Helps support brain health and healthy aging
🌟 Challenge yourself today: Add one more colorful fruit or vegetable to your plate. Every color counts, and every bite is another step toward a healthier you!
Remember, healthy eating isn't about being perfect. It's about creating colorful habits that last. 🌈

👇 What's your favorite colorful snack or fruit combination? Tell us in the comments!
