The vision of the Indiana Minority Health Coalition (IMHC) is to enhance the quality of life for minority communities by eliminating health disparities and improving access to healthcare services.

08/23/2026

For more than 30 years, the Indiana Minority Health Coalition has worked to ensure that communities affected by health disparities are visible, heard and represented.

IMHC serves as a statewide connection point, bringing together local coalitions, community members, healthcare professionals, researchers and policymakers around the shared goal of improving health outcomes throughout Indiana.

That visibility leads to stronger advocacy, better-informed policies, more relevant health education and increased attention to the barriers communities face when accessing care.

As we recognize this legacy of service, IMHC remains focused on the future: strengthening community partnerships and continuing the movement toward health equity for all Indiana residents.

For more than three decades, the Indiana Minority Health Coalition has served as a unified voice for health equity across Indiana.

IMHC was legally incorporated in 1994 following the development of Indiana’s first five-year Minority Health Strategic Plan. Since then, the organization has worked alongside local coalitions, community leaders, healthcare professionals and policymakers to address health disparities through research, education, advocacy and access to care.

As we honor more than 30 years of service, we also recognize the people and communities that made this work possible, and recommit ourselves to the work still ahead.

Did you know one landmark report changed how America talked about minority health?

Released in 1985, the Heckler Report documented approximately 60,000 preventable “excess deaths” each year among Black and other minority populations.

It helped bring national attention to health disparities and inspired decades of action, including the work IMHC continues across Indiana today.

Understanding the history helps us continue the work.

We crushed our movement goals in June — now it's time to think about what we're putting into our bodies! Our Special Project Coordinator shows us how a simple, colorful fruit salad (blueberries, raspberries, pomegranate, grapes, kiwi, pineapple) can satisfy your sweet tooth while supporting recovery, digestion, and heart health. Watch how it comes together and try it yourself!

At Indiana Black Expo
Nothing like seeing our people posing in front of that IMHC sign that's what community looks like. Thank you to everyone who came out, connected, and reminded us why this work matters.
Health equity isn't just a mission for us it's personal. And every photo here is proof that when we come together, we save lives. 💙

Healthy eating starts one meal at a time!

You don't have to eat perfectly; you just have to make one better choice today. Every colorful plate is another way to nourish your body and fuel your day.

What's the healthy meal you never get tired of eating? Share it below; we might inspire someone else's next dinner!

Also, here's a suggestion. Sneak in a little movement while you're cooking! Dance to your favorite song, do a few calf raises while you stir, march in place while you wait for the oven, or have your own mini kitchen dance party. Every move counts!
