It’s my favorite season, y’all 🌞

The morning started out grey and drizzly, prompting me to get in the garden before rain dampens our harvest. While picking solstice flower, I found myself smiling, realizing the actual day of solstice had slipped my mind. This bright little yellow bloom reminds me that although it’s grey, there’s the return of longer days and more sun to come. Until then, I can find brightness and beauty in other ways.

Losi ᎶᏏ season is my favorite herbal time of year.

Spending so much time with the roses lately and feeling their imprint on my spirit, my heart feels tenderly unfurled not dissimilar from these precious petals, literally resembling tiny hearts.

Last night at our Thimbleberry Herbal Medicine event for Rose Medicine was my favorite yet. We enjoyed home-made rose ice cream with rose-sprinkled gluten free almond cookies, drank rose mylk, made rose-infused honey and rose-infused oil roll-ons, crafted relaxing rose tea blends and poured some sweet rose bath salts.

A dear friend gifted me a book on Polynesian plant medicine and my voice caught in my throat, I found myself tearing up and touched by the kindness of this gesture. The roses had gotten to me, fully embraced in heart-warmth.

Today I sit with my little one, cuddling on the couch and watching shows, acutely aware of this privilege of our safety. My heart goes out to all of the children and families and people who are experiencing endangerment, whether in G a z a or L A who simply wish to rest in peace while still alive, who just want to cuddle their families on a couch somewhere in the woods. I pray we can keep caring about one another through the thorns, keep finding ways to be in community and keep our hearts open.

Having our hearts open means we might be more sensitive, yes, but that sensitivity allows us to feel more alive. I wouldn’t trade the occasional pain of deeply caring for anything.

Please stay safe out there. Tend to the roses and if you can’t access them and are craving their sweet medicine, please don’t hesitate to reach out 🌸

And thank you to and and for collaborating to put these sweet gatherings on 🫶🏽

Today is a magic day: the winter solstice ❄️

For those of us in the northern hemisphere, it means the longest night of the year. A time when the veil is especially thin and considered the new year by many cultures around the world. It is in this time I look to one of my longest plant friends, Solstice Flower 🌼

With the world’s chaos perpetuating, it can be difficult to stay grounded in these times. Not tuned out or avoidant of the suffering around us/the ways we need to show up, but that showing up also needs to extend and even start with our own bodies. I find I am much better to hold any capacity for anyone/thing else when my basic needs are met—including my emotional and mental states.

Solstice flower (aka St. John’s Wort) is a beloved herbal friend of mine and literally emits light particles ! Energetically, I find this plant to have an uplifting lightness to it. The flower is so small and playful, waving hello to passerby’s. This lovely little flower harnesses the summer solstice energy, which is when it blooms, and gives it back all year round with its incredible anti-depressant effects (literally has the same biological actions as SSRI anti-depressant medication) and mood-stabilizing abilities.

Super sustainable, highly effective, and downright beautiful (no filter needed to capture this deep red hypericin extraction), we are now offering our fresh plant Solstice Flower tincture to all. Please DM me directly if you are interested as our site is currently under construction while we transition into this new year 🌿

However, that being said, the safety profile of this one is not for anyone taking pharmaceuticals (of any kind, but especially the birth control pill and antidepressants). If you want to learn how to implement this plant into your life/work with other plants that can work in unison w pharmaceuticals, please reach out to me directly. I am always happy to take consultations. Happy solstice, all ❄️

If you’re a plant person and love to garden and forage, you’re all too aware of the seasons. One of my favorite and most grounding aspects of herbalism is how it teaches you to live seasonally. What is growing and abundant right now? Which plants are showing themselves? What does this say about what our bodies may need as seasons change?

Autumn always makes me feel nostalgic and as a tribute to my New England upbringing, there is no autumnal experience like fall in the northeast. However, Pacific Northwest autumn isn’t too shabby. Today whilst walking into a café, I saw a man shuffling his feet within the vibrant maple leaves, purposely kicking them about. The corners of my mouth are lifting as I type, recalling the moment of shared childlike joy when our eyes met and I, too, began kicking my feet in the leaves as I walked.

It’s easy to get lost in the cold and the darkness, but every season has its beauty. Right now, the Hawthorne berries are crisp and nearing their end. Mushrooms are finally about and it’s time to dig up our medicinal roots and put the leafier ones to bed.

What are your favorite autumn herbs? Do you crave certain medicines this time of year? I find myself craving nourishing bone-broths and warm chais.

What are some of your favorite ways to preserve fresh plants without alcohol?

We are a big fan of honey medicine, especially because that translates into everyday food use. Here is our beloved ylang-ylang infused honey from some fresh flowers we came across in Miami while visiting there last winter. Ylangylang is actually native to the Philippines (Happy Filipino-American Heritage Month !), but can grow is most tropical places. Honey can actually preserve plants for decades, depending on the water content of the plant.

A good rule of thumb is to allow your fresh plants to become ever-so lightly wilted, but never dried or rotting. You can lightly dry fresh herbs for one day on a towel on your kitchen counter and then they’ll have less water content to thin the honey and therefore less chance of turning funky.

But if you’d rather be 100% cautious, then our powdered miels are the way to go. They contain a certain ratio of hand-powdered dried herbs in raw honey that become less of a syrup or honey-like substance and more nut-butter consistency. Think thick herbal paste.

Do you like to make electuaries or miels? Which would you prefer? More lasting, shelf-stable, stronger honey herbals or more thin and sweet lighter medicinal herbals? Let us know in the comments 🌿

Happy Indigenous People’s Day 🍓

Warrior Peak Botanicals is an indigenous and BIPOC-run business. We’ve been underground for most of this year as we develop a structure that’s in alignment with our values.

We absolutely prioritize sustainable herbalism and that extends to ensuring we are working with plants that are not sacred or endangered to our various indigenous kin. There are certain plants I will never bring attention to. This is to ensure that sacred plants will always be held and tended first and foremost by their original peoples. All too often, a “sexy” plant is found like ginseng or palo santo or blue lotus. These may be extremely beneficial and potent plants and yet, their very existence becomes threatened from over-harvesting and then indigenous peoples no longer even have access to their medicines.

This is why we try to focus on the tonic plants and really amplify sustainable adaptogens that can be grown like ashwaganda, tulsi, schisandra and maca. There is no reason to extract plant medicine when there is such abundance we can cultivate ourselves.

Calling on some community medicine to help us build a gazebo !

We’ve got the plans, the lumber, and now a guide. If you feel called to help us finish this future community structure—we have some beautiful dreams that this gazebo encourage: herbal events, classes, community medicinal gardens, and care days.

October 1st and 2nd. Lunch and dessert provided. All ages welcome. 🧡🌿

Thank you (and .couch for this photo !) for the wonderful opportunity to teach about more sustainable plantcestors and sage bundle alternatives on such a beautiful day yesterday. 🌿

There is nothing more deeply healing than nurturing relationship with plants who’ve known you and your DNA for generations. 🌀

I got the chance to lead some kind-hearted people on a plant walk through this farm, detailing the immense medicinal and energetic benefits of these lovely every-day plant relatives like lemon balm and oregano. Afterwards we made culturally appropriate sageless smudge bundles that are better in alignment with the ancestors present. I once heard that learning to speak your indigenous languages will allow your ancestors to hear you better when you pray. I believe it’s the same with the plants: work with plants who know you, who’ve held your blood and lineage for generations.

Thank you and .mycena for letting me teach at last week’s BIPOC Family Excursion ! My second funded class allowing BIPOC full access to herbalism 🙌🏽🌿

Definitely prefer teaching this way, outside of traditional capitalism w/o the pressure to perform and allow more ease into the natural learning process. Thank you to everyone who attended and I do hope you enjoyed your experience and learned something new to take home to your families & community 🥰🌿
