Day 3 at the Alzheimer’s Impact Movement (AIM) Advocacy Forum in Washington, D.C., highlighted the power of advocacy and the importance of sustained federal leadership in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease.

Advocates had the opportunity to hear from Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, Director of the NIH, and U.S. Senator Jerry Moran, who emphasized the need for continued investment in research, innovation, and support for the millions of Americans impacted by Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

Their remarks reinforced a shared understanding: progress is possible when research, policy, and advocacy work together.

As advocates, we are committed to ensuring that the voices of individuals living with Alzheimer’s, caregivers, and families are heard by policymakers. Every conversation helps advance efforts to improve care, expand support services, accelerate scientific discovery, and move us closer to a world without Alzheimer’s.

We are grateful to stand alongside advocates from across the nation who are working to make Alzheimer’s a national priority and drive meaningful change for communities everywhere.

🏃‍♂️ Today, we celebrate a champion in every sense of the word. Thomas Sanders is a dedicated Alzheimer’s Association local board member, marathoner and passionate supporter of our mission who is turning every mile into meaningful impact.

Thomas’ family started noticing signs of the disease in his grandfather shortly after his grandmother passed. He had difficulty remembering names and everyday details. “After my grandfather passed, I began focusing more on my health and fitness,” Thomas shared.

Earlier this year, Thomas completed the Boston Marathon as a member of Team End ALZ, completing a journey that took him around the world and earning the prestigious Abbott World Marathon Majors Six Star Medal. This honor represents the completion of all six major marathons: Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago and New York City.

Thomas didn’t always see himself as a runner. In fact, it all started when a friend encouraged him to try a 10K. What began as a challenge quickly became a life-changing realization about pushing beyond perceived limits. He carries this mindset into his fundraising efforts.

Thomas has raised tens of thousands of dollars for the Alzheimer’s Association through Team End ALZ. His commitment extends beyond race day. As a member of his local chapter board, he dedicates his time and energy to advancing our mission and supporting others who have shared similar journeys.

While Thomas jokes that his grandfather might have been puzzled by the idea of running 26.2 miles for fun, he knows he would have felt immense pride. “I think he’d be proud that through all those marathons, I was able to raise funds to fight against the disease that he lived with.”

💜 This Global Running Day, Thomas reminds us that every mile can move us closer to a world without Alzheimer’s. Whether you’re walking your first mile or completing your sixth major marathon, together, we can go the distance in the fight to .

🚨 Today, Alzheimer’s advocates are on Capitol Hill making their voices heard and we need yours, too.

More than 720,000 Californians age 65+ are living with Alzheimer’s, yet too many people are still diagnosed too late to benefit from today’s treatments. That’s why advocates are meeting with members of Congress during Hill Day at the Alzheimer’s Impact Movement (AIM) Advocacy Forum to urge support for the bipartisan Alzheimer’s Screening and Prevention (ASAP) Act.

This is a pivotal moment for Alzheimer’s. Decades ago, advocates fought for Medicare coverage of mammograms, helping transform early detection and save lives. Today, we have an opportunity to do the same for Alzheimer’s disease.

New blood tests can detect Alzheimer’s before symptoms appear, but Medicare cannot currently cover them for screening. The ASAP Act would change that—giving people access to earlier detection and a better chance to benefit from available treatments.

The science is ready. The public is ready. Congress must act.

📞 Take action today: Call your members of Congress and urge them to cosponsor the bipartisan ASAP Act.

Together, we can help make early detection and treatment a reality for millions of families facing Alzheimer’s.
