Radiant Health Centers has provided four decades of exceptional care and support to people affected by HIV and their loved ones. It has been instrumental in driving new HIV transmissions down over the past 15 years; however, six people a week in Orange County are still diagnosed with HIV. Radiant Health Centers encompasses traditional HIV testing and prevention outreach as well as long-standing se

National Men’s Health Month is observed every June to raise awareness about the health challenges men face and to encourage early detection, prevention, and treatment of disease. Established by Congress in 1994, this month highlights a critical reality: men in the U.S. are statistically less likely to seek preventive care and, on average, live about 5 years less than women.

For many men, including those in LGBTQ+ communities, barriers like stigma, lack of access to affirming care, and social expectations can delay seeking help. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, men are more likely to experience conditions such as heart disease, certain cancers, and untreated mental health concerns. Gay, bis*xual, and other men who have s*x with men are also disproportionately impacted by HIV.

Advocates like Dwyane Wade and Karamo Brown have helped break down stigma around men’s health, encouraging open conversations about physical and emotional well-being.

Taking care of your health starts with knowing the signs. Consider:
• Scheduling routine check-ups and screenings (blood pressure, cholesterol, prostate health)
• Getting tested regularly for HIV and STIs
• Paying attention to mental health—persistent stress, irritability, or withdrawal can be warning signs
• Seeking support for substance use or other behavioral health concerns

In 1986, Splash was more than a fundraiser; it was a lifeline. During the height of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, it created a space for compassion, dignity, and care when few others would. That movement became the foundation for what is now Radiant Health Centers.

LGBTQ+ Families Day is a time to celebrate the many ways families are formed, nurtured, and sustained. While not a federally recognized holiday, it is widely observed during Pride Month to affirm that love, support, and belonging, not structure, define what makes a family.

Across the U.S., millions of children are being raised by LGBTQ+ parents, and research from organizations like the American Psychological Association consistently shows that children in LGBTQ+ households thrive just as well as their peers. Despite this, many families still face barriers to affirming healthcare, legal protections, and social acceptance.

Advocates like Pete Buttigieg and Wanda Sykes have helped normalize and uplift LGBTQ+ families, showing the power of visibility and representation.

LGBTQ+ families may encounter unique challenges that can impact overall health and well-being, including:
• Difficulty finding inclusive healthcare providers
• Experiences of stigma or discrimination
• Mental health stressors affecting both parents and children

Recognizing signs of stress, such as anxiety, withdrawal, or difficulty accessing care, is important. Supportive, affirming environments can significantly improve outcomes for both youth and adults.
