Earlier this month, NeuroQure co-founders Dave Justus and Dr. Jay Gargus attended the Fourth Annual Symposium of the UC Irvine Center for Neurotherapeutics. A highlight was reconnecting with Dr. Paul Negulescu of Vertex Pharmaceuticals and Dr. Mike Cahalan, former chair of UC Irvine’s Department of Physiology & Biophysics.

Paul’s talk was a fascinating look at his path from academic research to drug discovery. That work helped lead to the first medicines to treat the underlying cause of cystic fibrosis.

For Jay, it was also a reunion. He and Paul once worked in neighboring labs at UC Irvine, both drawn to the same question: what happens when one small part of a cell doesn’t work quite right? It’s a question that still sits at the heart of our work at NeuroQure today.

Thank you to the UC Irvine Center for Neurotherapeutics for bringing together such a thoughtful group, and to Paul and Mike for a great conversation.
