🚫 MYTH: "Radiation therapy always causes severe side effects." ✅ FACT: Proton therapy is specifically designed to minimize side effects by targeting only the tumor — significantly reducing radiation exposure to surrounding healthy tissue.

Not all radiation treatments are the same. Know your options.

Navigating a cancer diagnosis means asking a lot of questions. Here are a few worth bringing to your next appointment:

Is proton therapy an option for my cancer type?
How does this treatment compare to other radiation options?
What are the short- and long-term side effects of each treatment?
How will treatment affect my daily life?
Should I seek a second opinion?

You deserve complete answers. The team at the Texas Center for Proton Therapy is always happy to help you find them.

Why proton therapy matters for children 💛

When a child is diagnosed with cancer, protecting their growing body becomes just as important as treating the disease. This is where proton therapy can make a significant difference.

Conditions we treat:
Brain and spinal cord tumors
Lymphomas
Sarcomas
Neuroblastoma
And other pediatric cancers

Every child deserves the opportunity to grow, thrive, and live their fullest life. We're honored to be part of that journey.

Did you know two history-making milestones happened right here in Texas — just days apart?

This May marks the 20th anniversary of Andrew K. Lee, M.D., MPH, becoming the first physician in Texas to treat a patient with proton therapy. And on May 8, we celebrated 18 years since Dr. Lee made history again as the first physician in North America to use pencil beam scanning.

Two decades of innovation. Eighteen years of precision. We are so proud to celebrate these milestones and grateful for the pioneering spirit that continues to shape the exceptional care our patients receive every day. 🤍

🔬 May is National Cancer Research Month — and we’re grateful for the scientists, researchers, and clinical teams whose work makes treatments like proton therapy possible.

Every breakthrough in cancer care begins with a question, a study, and years of dedication. Proton therapy itself is the result of decades of research — and the work is far from over. Today, ongoing clinical trials and research continue to expand what's possible for cancer patients everywhere.

At Texas Center for Proton Therapy, we are proud to be part of that ongoing pursuit — participating in research that helps shape the future of cancer care.

To every researcher and trial participant: thank you.

🩶 May is Brain Cancer Awareness Month — a time to raise awareness around one of the most complex cancers to treat.

Brain tumors are uniquely complex. Their location makes precision not just important — but essential. Every millimeter matters when protecting the areas responsible for memory, movement, speech, and personality.

At Texas Center for Proton Therapy, we treat brain tumors with proton therapy designed to conform precisely to the tumor — working to spare the healthy brain tissue around it and protect your quality of life throughout treatment and beyond.

If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with a brain tumor, know that advanced options exist. You don't have to navigate this alone.

🩵This week we celebrate National Nurses Week — and we want to take a moment to honor the incredible nurses who are the heartbeat of our team at Texas Center for Proton Therapy.

Our nurses show up every single day with skill, compassion, and dedication that goes far beyond a job description. They hold hands during hard conversations, answer every question with patience, and make sure every patient feels seen, heard, and cared for — not just treated.

To our nurses: you are the reason our patients feel safe. You are the reason families feel hopeful. You make everything we do possible. Thank you.

Let's talk about side effects 💬

One of the most common questions we hear is: "What will treatment feel like?"

Here’s what to expect with proton therapy:

During treatment, proton therapy itself is painless. You won't feel the treatment being delivered.

Our team provides comprehensive support throughout your entire treatment journey, so you can focus on what matters most. Many patients continue working and spending time with family during treatment.

Your experience is unique — and we're here for every step of it.
