Her "hozier yell" moment...

Antuanette left her job as an airline gate agent because dizziness made it hard to even walk the jet ramp. A brain tumor diagnosis followed β€” and 42 days of proton therapy. During treatment, she walked every single day. By the end, she'd logged more than 180 miles.

This month, she rang the gong. Full circle doesn't even begin to cover it.

Congratulations to our 6,000th patient, Antuanette. πŸ’™

Did you know? Proton therapy is one of several advanced treatment options available for eligible cancer patients. In 2006, our own Andrew K. Lee, M.D. became the first physician in Texas to treat a patient with proton therapy β€” a milestone that helped pave the way for the personalized care we provide today.

For kids in treatment, "back-to-school season" can look a little different. Proton therapy is a precise, targeted approach β€” one option within the full range of cancer treatments available through Texas Oncology β€” designed to focus on the tumor with care for surrounding healthy, developing tissue.

For pediatric patients where it's the right fit, that precision can help support more good days for kids to be kids: attending class, seeing friends, and staying connected to everyday life during treatment.

Proton therapy is available through Texas Center for Proton Therapy, working in close coordination with each child's Texas Oncology care team to build the treatment plan that's right for them. πŸ’™

Myth: Proton therapy is only an option for a select few. Fact: Many lung cancer patients may be candidates for proton therapy, especially when tumors are located near sensitive structures like the heart.

For Raymond Love, treatment for recurrent prostate cancer meant leaving home for a while β€” but it led him right back to what matters most: faith, family, and the lake view he loves. When someone you love is going through treatment, it's natural to want to help β€” but knowing how can be tough. Here are 5 simple ways to show up for them:

1️⃣ Offer specific help ("I'm bringing dinner Tuesday") instead of "let me know if you need anything"
2️⃣ Show up for the small, ordinary moments β€” a favorite show, a quiet visit, just being there
3️⃣ Let them lead the conversation about their diagnosis
4️⃣ Take something off their plate β€” errands, rides, appointment reminders
5️⃣ Keep checking in weeks and months later, not just right after diagnosis

Cancer treatment affects the whole support system, not just the patient. Tag someone who shows up for their people. πŸ’™

This World Lung Cancer Day, we're recognizing the range of treatment options available for lung cancer, including proton therapy. For eligible patients, proton therapy is one tool that allows radiation oncologists to target tumors with precision. Talk to your care team about which treatment approach is right for you.

Head and neck cancers are treated in one of the body's most complex regions β€” packed with nerves, glands, and structures that control speech, swallowing, taste, and hearing. That's exactly why precision matters so much in treatment planning.

Proton therapy is designed to stop the radiation dose at the tumor, allowing our team to precisely target the cancer while protecting nearby critical structures like the salivary glands, spinal cord, brainstem, and swallowing muscles.

For appropriate patients, that precision can help reduce treatment-related side effects, like severe dry mouth or difficulty swallowing, both during and after treatment.

This , we're honoring every patient navigating this journey β€” and the care team working to treat cancer while protecting quality of life.
