Talking about s*x is hard. Trying something new is hard… at first. Feeling awkward might be a sign that you’re headed in the right direction. Keep going. 😮‍💨

Hi. I’m Dr. Lori Davis.

I’m a nurse practitioner and s*x counselor. And I think about desire and intimacy…a lot.

Specifically, what happens in relationships when one person wants more s*x than the other. Which is most relationships, at some point.

Not broken couples. Not couples who don’t love each other. Usually the opposite.

I’ve been doing this work for a while. Writing about it, teaching it, sitting with people in it. Now I’m showing up here too.

Glad you found me.

The descriptions make responsive desire sound so peaceful. You see the clean, cyclical diagrams. You find out you aren’t “broken” or suffering from a permanently dead libido, and you feel a massive wave of intellectual relief.

But then your partner reaches for you. Instead of starting at a peaceful, blank-slate “neutral,” your body instantly tightens. Your jaw clenches. Your mind immediately flashes to the worst version of how the night ends. You find yourself navigating an agonizing tug-of-war between a part of you that wants to want it, and a part of you that is completely shut down.

If simply understanding the definition of responsive desire was the cure, you wouldn’t still be feeling so stuck.

The missing piece isn’t a generic diagram. It’s understanding why the cycle turns into a knot for you, specifically. It’s learning how to navigate the physical bracing, the hidden pressure of the desire gap, and the deep loneliness of carrying this negotiation entirely on your own.

I created a free, 6-day email guide to help you untangle the knot of responsive desire. It looks past the standard textbook definitions to explore what is actually happening in your skin and your relationship when intimacy gets hard—and how to finally start connecting for real.

Let’s look at what is really going on. Together. Link in bio.

If you know exactly how long it has been, the S*x Clock may already be running.

One person is counting up.

How many days has it been?
How many hints?
How many times have I been turned down?

The other is counting down.

How long until the pressure starts again?
How do I avoid the conversation?
How do I get a little more time?

Same clock.
Opposite directions.

And once the S*x Clock is running, time itself starts to feel like the problem.

Not desire.
Not connection.
Just: how long has it been?

When sx starts feeling like something that needs to happen, desire usually gets harder, not easier.

Because nothing about a ticking time bomb has ever made anyone feel safer, closer, or more open to intimacy.

👉🏻 If this feels familiar, start with the free 6-Day Mismatched Desire Reset through the link in bio.

It helps you understand the tracking, pressure, and meaning underneath the S*x, so the relationship stops being measured by how long it has been.
