Why The Mindful Neuro? ๐ง ๐
I've had a few people ask about my business name so I thought I'd share a little of the meaning behind The Mindful Neuro.
First, the Neuro part is personal.
I spent much of my life trying to understand why my brain seemed to work differently from everyone else's. Diagnosed with AuDHD a few years ago, instigated the path that helped me begin to understand myself in ways I hadn't before.
For years, I thought I needed to change how my brain worked. What I eventually learned is that I needed to understand how to work WITH my brain instead of constantly fighting against it.
And that's where the Mindful part comes in.
Mindfulness has played an important role in my own healing journey. Not because I've mastered the art of being calm (trust me, I haven't ๐คฃ), but because mindfulness has taught me to notice, understand, and respond to my own experiences with a little more compassion.
Mindfulness isn't about having a quiet mind. It's about learning how to live with the mind you have.
And that philosophy carries into the work I do with women and children.
Whether I'm offering reflexology, relaxation massage, neurosensory scratch therapy, or even adding a little whimsy through hair artistry, my intention remains the same.
I want people to feel comfortable in their own skin. To experience moments where they don't have to perform, mask, meet expectations, or try to fit someone else's idea of who they should be.
I also recognize that relaxation doesn't look or feel the same for everyone. Our nervous systems, sensory preferences, and personal experiences are different. What feels wonderful to one person might feel overwhelming to another- neurodivergent or otherwise.
Your experience should work with YOU, not the other way around.
I also get asked why I only work with women in the wellness side of things. The answer has layers for another post, but mostly because that's my current comfortability of which I don't apologize.
Even at 50 I don't claim that I've figured everything out. I've pretty much raised myself and am still learning, growing, and occasionally getting distracted by 47 different ideas before breakfast. ๐ฟ๏ธ
The Mindful Neuro has become a reflection of who I am, what I've learned, and the kind of space I hope to create for others.
A little more self-acceptance; A little less pressure to fit the mold; A little more room for wellness, whimsy, and being unapologetically yourself. ๐
That's The Mindful Neuro.
And I'm so glad you're here.
