Knowing when your baby’s diaper is full is essential for preventing diaper rash, leaks, and discomfort. Because babies can’t tell you directly, you rely on physical cues, tactile checks, and a few clever design features.
Here is how you can easily tell when it’s time for a change:
1. Check the Wetness Indicator (Most Disposables)
Most modern disposable diaper brands feature a wetness indicator strip running down the outside center of the diaper.
How it works: The strip typically changes color (often turning from yellow to blue or green) when it comes into contact with moisture.
Tip: This is the quickest way to check for p*e without having to unfasten the diaper.
2. Perform the “Weight and Bulk” Test
As a diaper fills up with urine or stool, its physical characteristics change noticeably:
Sagging: A full diaper will hang lower between the baby’s legs and feel heavy or bulky.
Texture Changes:
P*e: The diaper will feel stiff, thick, or spongy (due to the absorbent gel expanding).
P**p: You might feel distinct lumps, or notice the diaper feels unevenly distributed.
