GOD'S WORD FOR TODAY
DAILY DEVOTIONAL
A BRIGHTER FUTURE
Read Isaiah 34:1 to 35:10; Galatians 6:1–18
Jane was exhausted. Her husband, Rick, had Alzheimer’s disease and wandered late at night. Jane couldn’t remember the last time she had a good night’s sleep. What a comfort this verse became to Jane:Strengthen those who have tired hands, and encourage those who have weak knees. Say to those with fearful hearts, “Be strong, and do not fear, for your God is coming to destroy your enemies. He is coming to save you” (Isaiah 35:3–4, NLT).In Isaiah 1–34, the prophet had delivered a message of judgment from God to the Israelites. God’s people had a history of turning from Him to follow the gods of the people around them. Their future looked dark and without hope. But Isaiah 35 begins with a promise, and the entire chapter has a golden thread of encouragement running through it. These words offered hope for the Israelites that God would strengthen His people and ultimately save them in the future. While our problems (like Jane’s) may not be resolved during our time on earth, we can rest in God’s strength and trust Him to make all things right in the end.God, please be my strength.
