IBS affects an estimated 1 in 10 adults globally. (Lovell & Ford, Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, 2012)

The vast majority have entirely normal imaging and endoscopy.

And most of them are told the same thing. Learn to manage it. Avoid your triggers. Here is a low FODMAP pamphlet 🫠

The reason IBS feels unresolvable is not because it is.

It is because the testing used to diagnose it was never designed to find its cause. Standard GI testing rules out serious structural disease. It does not evaluate the microbiome, test for bacterial overgrowth, assess digestive enzyme output, or check whether the gut lining is intact.

Those are exactly the things driving symptoms in most people.

Here is what actually identifying a root cause requires 👇🏻

• SIBO will never show on a colonoscopy or blood panel. It requires a specific breath test or functional stool testing to detect

• Parasitic infections are frequently missed by single standard stool tests. DNA-based testing catches what standard cultures consistently cannot

• Intestinal permeability requires functional markers like zonulin and secretory IgA. Neither appears on standard labs

• Dysbiosis requires microbiome assessment. A standard blood test tells you nothing about what is actually living in your gut

Finding the root cause requires a different kind of test.

Not another symptom management strategy.

That heavy, foggy, exhausted feeling after eating is not normal.

And it is not in your head 🫠

Most people blame the food. But the real question is what your body is doing with it.

Three things that commonly drive this 👇🏻

🔬 Digestive enzyme insufficiency
Not enough enzymes to break food down properly means your gut works overtime after every meal. That extra effort shows up as fatigue. The undigested food ferments and bloating follows.

🔬 Blood sugar dysregulation
A rapid spike followed by a sharp drop creates the crash and brain fog that hits within the hour. It is not about eating too much sugar. It is about how your body is processing the meal.

🔬 Immune activation
A compromised gut lining allows food particles to cross into the bloodstream and trigger an immune response after eating. Your immune system activating after every single meal is one of the most draining things your body can experience.

Feeling relaxed after eating is normal.

Feeling completely wiped out, foggy, and bloated within an hour is your gut asking for help.

• Whole milk (or full-fat coconut milk for dairy-free) gives healthy fats toddlers need for brain development!

Here is something the elimination diet approach almost never accounts for 🫠

The anxiety and stress that comes from constantly monitoring what you eat is itself a gut trigger.

When every meal feels like a potential threat, your nervous system is on alert before the food even arrives. Stomach acid drops. Digestive enzymes do not release properly. Motility slows.

Almost anything will cause a reaction. Not because the food is the problem, but because the nervous system never got the signal that eating is safe.

What restriction is quietly doing over time 👇🏻

🔬 Creating the sensitivity it is trying to solve
Less food variety means less microbiome diversity, less butyrate, and a more permeable gut lining that reacts to more foods, not fewer.

🔬 Depleting the nutrients your gut needs to heal
Zinc, vitamin D, and magnesium directly support gut lining repair. Years of restriction quietly depletes all three.

🔬 Weakening your digestive capacity
Stop eating a food consistently and your gut reduces the enzymes it produces to break it down. Reintroduction gets harder over time.

🔬 Keeping your nervous system in fight or flight
Food fear has a direct physiological effect on digestion. A gut that never feels safe eating cannot heal.

The question was never which foods to remove.

It was always what is driving the reactivity in the first place.

Comment COACH and we will walk you through exactly how our team approaches this. Most of our 1:1 clients work with us completely free through insurance 👇🏻
