The STAR Center is hiring a Reading Specialist for a part time position, working two days per week.

This role is a great opportunity for an experienced educator who is passionate about helping students build strong foundational literacy skills. The Reading Specialist will provide explicit instruction in phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension using a research based reading program. A strong focus will be placed on structured multisensory reading approaches that support the needs of students with disabilities.

Sometimes Orientation & Mobility lessons don’t look like lessons at all.

This one involved something pretty hard to argue with: ice cream and new glasses. Somewhere between choosing a flavor and trying on frames, there was plenty of real-world practice happening, like navigating spaces, making independent choices, and building confidence in everyday routines.

It turns out that learning to use a white cane is a little better when it comes with a cone in one hand and a mirror in front of you.

Sometimes the right piece of equipment can make all the difference.

The STAR Center currently has several pieces of used medical equipment available at no cost for individuals and families in need. If you or someone you know could benefit from these items, we would love to help connect them to the right home.

To begin the process, please contact Lisa Bailey at [email protected] or call 731-554-5123.

We know medical equipment can be expensive, and we’re grateful for opportunities like this to support our community in practical, meaningful ways. Please help us spread the word so these items can reach the people who need them most.
