The SIP for PBM Reform The SIP for PBM Reform has a clear mission.

We want to inform Mississippians of the tactics of pharmacy benefit managers such as unfair pricing reimbursements, steering, and lack of oversight to prevent further closures of independent pharmacies in MS.

Our neighbors in Alabama overwhelming passed meaningful PBM reform last year. A year later and they’re seeing the results.

We don’t need to recreate the wheel here in Mississippi. We simply need to look north, east, and west of our borders to see what already works. And we need leaders who do what is right!

An Alabama law that changed the rate at which pharmacies are reimbursed by insurance has been in effect for a year, and some local pharmacists say it helped keep their businesses open.

Governor Tate Reeves, Speaker Jason White, Lt Governor Delbert Hosemann, the State of Mississippi is the largest employer in the state. We would encourage you to review these findings. The link will be in the comments.

While Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company is not structured EXACTLY the same as NADAC + a dispensing fee, it’s very similar. We are long past living in the shadows where PBM games are concerned.

We can and should do better!

A patient's copay unexpectedly jumped to nearly $500. Upon investigation, it was discovered his plan design had changed, penalizing him for using our pharmacy. He was now facing higher costs or needing to switch to a chain or mail-order pharmacy.

The problem with the pharmacy industry is not difficult to fix.

What is difficult is finding elected officials willing to put their citizens first!

Both sides of the political aisle do not always agree, but what a breath of fresh air it is to see ALL FOUR of Mississippi’s Congressmen supporting the Pharmacist Fight Back Act for Federal Employee Health Benefit Plans, HR6610!

PBM reform is a bi-partisan topic all across the country and we are thankful to have Congressman Michael Guest joining as a co-sponsor!

THANK YOU, Congressman Bennie G. Thompson, Congressman Mike Ezell, Representative Trent Kelly, Congressman Michael Guest!

TRUE specialty drugs require “special” storage, handling and dispensing.

The fact that a medication is for a more complex disease state (or is just expensive to begin with) does not justify slapping a “specialty” label on it.

When that happens PBMs force those medications to their specialty pharmacies and charge exorbitant amounts for them.

Meanwhile, a local retail pharmacy could fill those medications for a fraction of the cost to the patient and/or insurance plan, while also avoiding drug degradation from the extreme temperatures of shipping.

Meaningful PBM reform could put an end to this practice.

What’s the holdup Mississippi?

The system built to protect consumers from high prices is failing in many parts of Missouri.

🚨UPDATED🚨

One week since our last update and we sadly have NOT 1, NOT 2, but ‼️3️⃣‼️ more confirmed pharmacy closures in our state for a total of 1️⃣6️⃣❗️

We have WARNED our elected officials of the consequences of failing to pass meaningful PBM reform.

Pharmacy closures decrease access to care which increases chances of more serious health outcomes.

Ignorance is no longer an excuse! There is too much available data and too many people willing to educate our leaders for that.

All that is left is WILLFULLY turning a blind eye!
