✨ B E N E D I C T ✨ This very special third-time mama trusted us with her care once again for her third pregnancy. After a few weeks of hiccups and closely monitoring both mama and baby, we were grateful to avoid a transfer of care thanks to her willingness to work closely with our team. With a little help from a castor oil smoothie, labor got rolling and mama’s body did the rest. Within a few hours, contractions picked up quickly and our team headed her way as soon as she called—but while our midwife was still just minutes out, we got the phone call we knew was coming! Baby Benedict had already arrived, born beautifully in the water before we could make it there, almost an exact repeat of her last birth with us. One thing is certain: this mama was made for the water and absolutely rocks her births. We are so honored to have walked this journey with this family for the third time. An extra special detail is that our midwife, Virginia, actually grew up as this mama’s neighbor—a beautiful full-circle moment. 🤍✨

✨A L E S S A N D R A ✨

This mama patiently waited for her baby to pick her birthday for 42 weeks. After trying many gentle techniques to encourage labor, she decided it was time for a dose of castor oil. It worked like a charm & later that night we were joining her at her home with her husband & wonderful doula as she worked through her contractions. She’s one of those birthers who handles it all so well & in between contractions you wouldn’t even know she’s in labor 😅 When we arrived she was so calm and happy, & already 8cm. We spent some time just chatting and laughing together on the couch while she labored in the tub & within 2 hours she was complete and pushing. Her baby needed some assistance getting out, with a shoulder hung up on the p***c bone, but it was thankfully easily resolved. Mom and baby were so strong through that process. We were blown away when this baby girl weighed in at 9lb 7oz, a whole pound and a half bigger than her older brother! We will never stopped being amazed by the sheer power and strength of mothers. We loved supporting this family through two homebirths now! Your midwives love you baby Alessandra ❤️

Our very own Maya is officially on leave as she prepares to welcome her second baby and wow—are we all waiting in anticipation to find out just who this baby is. We have a quick message from Maya herself that she wants to share with you all:

I’m officially on maternity leave 🙌🏽 I attended 16 births during this pregnancy, the exact same number I attended while I was pregnant with first born, Damian. And every single one was uniquely beautiful, some challenging, some seemingly effortless, some emergencies managed, some babies asking me to stay up through the night and some barely waiting for their midwife to arrive. I feel lucky to have witnessed every mother during this season. It’s something special to attend births when you are pregnant yourself, I see it as a huge privilege to bear witness to the simultaneous magnitude and normalcy of birth as my own experience of birthing this baby gets closer and closer. I was feeling ready to go off call when the time came & now that it’s here I’m ironically feeling the pang of sadness that comes when a birth worker takes time away from sitting with women in the birth space. I know that every single one of our families we care for are in excellent hands with the team we’ve assembled & I feel totally at peace in their care as a pregnant mama as well. It’s such a wild experience growing my family alongside my precious clients! All of you amazing mothers inspire me daily & I carry the impact of the strength you’ve shown me. I’ll be back very soon 💕

Wow April—you were a good one🤍 It was the month of girls! Only one sweet baby boy who also holds the biggest baby award for the month. Each baby born in April is so special in their own way and we are reflecting on what a privilege it is to walk through this with each of you.

✨S O F I J A ✨

We tend to mentally prepare our first time moms for a longer, more challenging labor. But every now and then a first time mama surprises us with a quickly moving labor. We got the update from this mother at 41 weeks that things were happening & within just a couple of hours we were heading over to her home to support her. We found her in the birth tub with her husband & her two doulas supporting her beautifully. We could immediately tell she was close to the end, with strong contractions coming every few minutes. She was handling it all with such a calm & strong demeanor, all the while still wrapping her head around the fact that her birth was really unfolding this quickly. This surprise gender baby was born over the toilet, where so many babies love to come out. It was so special to watch the joyfulness of these parents as they discovered their first baby was a beautiful baby girl 💕 It was an honor to support this family! Your midwives love you Sofija!
