What Is Orthopedic Acupuncture?
Orthopedic acupuncture is a specialized style of acupuncture that combines traditional Chinese medicine with modern anatomy, physiology, and movement assessment. It focuses on treating musculoskeletal pain, movement dysfunction, and injuries by targeting specific muscles, connective tissues, and nerve pathways involved in the condition.
Unlike traditional acupuncture, which may focus primarily on balancing the body’s energy systems, orthopedic acupuncture uses a more anatomical approach to identify and treat the underlying causes of pain and dysfunction.
Conditions commonly treated include:
• Neck pain
• Back pain
• Sciatica
• Shoulder pain and rotator cuff injuries
• Tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow
• Hip pain
• Knee pain
• Plantar fasciitis
• TMJ dysfunction
• Sports injuries
• Chronic muscle tension and trigger points
Treatment often includes a combination of acupuncture, motor point acupuncture, trigger point release, electrical stimulation, movement assessment, and corrective recommendations when appropriate.
The goal is not only to reduce pain but also to improve function, restore mobility, address compensation patterns, and support long-term recovery.
Orthopedic acupuncture can be an effective option for both acute and chronic pain conditions, whether symptoms are the result of an injury, repetitive stress, poor movement patterns, or ongoing musculoskeletal dysfunction.
At Integrative Wellness Center, treatment plans are individualized to address the unique factors contributing to each patient’s pain and recovery goals.
