Hello, my friends!

Mom reminded me that May is Women's Health Month, and I thought I'd share all the ways I've been keeping healthy.

Also, I met a real-life star! Ms. Angel, a patient at Onslow Rehabilitation Center who is recovering from a stroke, recently filmed a commercial for the hospital. I have never felt so star-struck in my life!

💙 Meet Mr. Norris and his daughter, Samantha, sharing their powerful story of hope and recovery after his stroke. The fast, compassionate response from our Emergency Department and ongoing support from Jennifer Nguyen-Davies, our Stroke Nurse Coordinator, made all the difference.

It is a privilege to care for the people in our community. The Norris family’s gratitude reminds us why we do what we do, helping families through life’s most challenging moments and inspiring us every day!

National Speech-Language-Hearing Month (NSLHM) provides an opportunity to raise awareness about communication disorders and the role Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists play in providing life-altering treatment.

Communication is central to daily life—from expressing basic wants and needs to reading the news, writing a note, or sharing meaningful moments with family and friends. But when someone has a speech, language, hearing, or cognitive disorder, everyday interactions can become challenging—both for the person and for those close to them.

Our Speech-Language Pathologists at Onslow Memorial Rehabilitation Center diagnose and treat communication disorders in people of all ages and help families or care partners develop strategies to make everyday interactions easier.

While our Audiologist, Dr. Calli Yancey, at Onslow Ear, Nose & Throat, works closely with patients to diagnose and treat their hearing disorders, following them throughout their hearing journey to find the treatment that best meets their needs.

Thank you for the incredible work you do for our patients every day.

For this Stroke Awareness Month, our Stroke Nurse Coordinator, Jennifer Davies, walks us through the top 4 ways to reduce and control your stroke risk.

🩺 Go to the doctor and take your prescribed medications.
🚶‍♀️‍➡️ Increase your daily activity.
🚫 Quit smoking and va**ng.
🫀 Avoid high-fat foods and instead, go for a low-fat, heart-healthy diet.

Remember, small daily habits and seeking a primary care provider can lower stroke risk and protect your brain for life.
