✨ World Breastfeeding week ✨
As a perinatal provider, we have the privilege of supporting mothers through this beautiful journey, to honor their bodies but also meet them where they are at — the most important thing we do.
👩🏽🍼exclusively breastfed, donor milk, combo feeding babies
mothers who induce lactation to feed, exclusively pumping mothers and so much more - please be proud of you
we’ve also seen mothers make some difficult decisions for their families, like choosing to stop breastfeeding to support their mental health — and before you judge, in our office, a FED baby with a happy, present mother is ABOVE EVERYTHING …because who are we to judge how a mother copes with mental health and I would recommend formula any day over a mother that doesn’t want to be there anymore, a mother who wants to walk away, a mother the system may fail her (feel free to unfollow me over this!)✌🏽
As a breastfeeding mom, I pumped/breastfed/used donor milk for 17 months …this is one of the hardest but most rewarding things i’ve ever done.
💙 our journey was not easy and it took a village of friends, providers AND our own patients:
breastfeeding support from The Milk Lab | Lactation Counselor Kristina Hernandez
donor milk from Aisha Georges and 3 other moms
oral/bodywork from Dr. Beverly I Reyes | Infant & Pediatric PT | BF🤱Counselor Doctor Alexa Kent | Pediatric + Perinatal Chiropractic
my pumping partner Ashleigh Creeden who was also breastfeeding at the same time and sat with me in the most random places to pump 🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽
Breastfeeding was the bond i needed to my son that I never got at birth. It was our routine at night and mornings, our little quiet time I will never share again with anyone else. And that is both equally sad and incredibly special.
On the other hand, I bet I have the most interesting list of places I pumped to keep my supply:
NYC subway, parks, the beach, car rides, the gym
countless flights
multiple airport bathroom floors
the VIP section of a NYC nightclub 😬
in between patients at the office and so many more
💛 if you are in this season, we see you and you are not alone. please reach out to our office if you need support! We have a team of IBCLC’s we trust and love!
