We’re deeply honored to share that co-founder ’s piece about our partnership with refugees in Dzaleka Refugee Camp in Malawi has been published in
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What began with an application to our BIPOC Fellowship from a refugee named Donatien Fundi during our 2022 teacher training has grown into a refugee-led yoga program offering more than 30 free classes each week inside the camp, serving thousands of participants each month.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This story is about yoga far beyond aesthetics or wellness trends. It’s about community care, trauma recovery, chosen family, mutual aid, and the quiet ways people help one another rebuild life after displacement and violence. It’s about refugees teaching refugees. It’s about small acts of solidarity growing into something much larger than any one person.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We are endlessly grateful to the teachers, students, donors, and community members here in Boston and in Dzaleka who continue to believe in this work and help sustain it.

Alex Bauermeister’s annual Trauma Informed Yoga Training starts this Thursday!

This training is for anyone looking to hold safer, more therapeutic, and deeply embodied healing space.

Alex is a seasoned yoga teacher, yoga therapist, and clinical therapist dedicated to creating inclusive, accessible environments for diverse nervous systems. She has been leading trauma-informed therapeutic yoga trainings across New England and the UK for nearly a decade. Her teaching blends clinical insight with compassionate, grounded embodiment practices.

At the heart of Alex’s approach is empowerment through choice, self-attunement, and agency. Students are invited to participate in ways that honor their body, energy, and nervous system in each moment. To ensure the training is the right fit, all participants are required to take at least one class with Alex prior to enrolling.

More information about the training is available on our website — link in bio.

✨ We’re looking for new folks to join our Workstudy Crew ✨
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Our workstudy program was built around the idea that access to yoga shouldn’t only be financial. Through the yogic principle of sēva — service in support of community — exchange your time, care, and presence for classes and other studio benefits.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The work is simple: managing check in at the front desk, keeping the space clean and welcoming, and being part of the day-to-day life of the studio. In return, you become woven into the little ecosystem of practice and people that makes JPCY what it is.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s a great way to meet like-minded humans, deepen your connection to the studio, and support a collective you care about. We truly wouldn’t be who we are without our workstudy crew. 🤍

Postpartum Baby + Me Yoga Returns for a 6 Week Series - Starting THURSDAY 5/14 1:30-2:45 PM with Jill Rodgers
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Early postpartum can feel tender, overwhelming, beautiful, exhausting — sometimes all within the same hour. This offering is designed to support newly postpartum folks with care, community, and practices that honor the profound physical and emotional shifts of this season.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Classes include movement to support pelvic floor restoration and core stability, along with attention to the areas of the body working hardest during life with a newborn: backs, necks, shoulders, and chest. Each session also includes a gentle check-in circle, creating space to connect with others moving through similar experiences.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You are welcome with or without your pre-mobile baby. Feed, diaper, rock, rest, move — all of it belongs here. There will be opportunities to include baby in your practice, while also making space to care for yourself.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Come as you are. 💛
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Series will run Thursdays 5/14, 5/21, 6/4, 6/11, 6/18, 6/25 from 1:30-2:45 PM in person or via livestream.

✨ NEW WORKSHOP at JPCY THIS SATURDAY 5/9 6:30-9 PM
Fundamentals of Stillness: Mindfulness Meditation + Yin Yoga with Noel Coakley + Emily Peterson
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In a world that asks us to move faster and consume more, stillness can feel both unfamiliar and deeply necessary. This collaborative offering brings together mindfulness meditation and Yin Yoga as complementary practices for nervous system regulation, embodied awareness, and presence.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Noel will begin with an accessible introduction to mindfulness and meditation, exploring how breath and attention can support steadiness, compassion, and clarity in daily life. From there, Emily will guide a grounding Yin Yoga practice using long-held postures to deepen awareness through stillness, sensation, and breath.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Together, these practices invite us to slow down enough to listen — to the body, the breath, and the mind — with space for reflection and discussion woven throughout.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Open to all levels.

Each session offers step-by-step breakdowns of assists for specific postures, along with guided partner practice and feedback to help refine perception and quality of touch.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
