🧠 **How You Wake Up Can Affect Your Entire Day**

If you struggle with anxiety, morning grogginess, brain fog, or low energy, consider something surprisingly simple: **how you wake up.**

A loud alarm can suddenly pull you out of deep sleep, triggering a startle response before your brain and body have had time to transition naturally into wakefulness. For someone who already struggles with anxiety or a sensitive nervous system, this abrupt jolt can mean starting the day with a racing heart, tension, irritability, confusion, or extreme fatigue that you can't "shake off".

You may also experience **sleep inertia**, that heavy, foggy, disoriented feeling when your body is awake but your brain hasn't fully transitioned out of sleep. This can affect focus, memory, reaction time, decision-making, mood, and mental clarity, often for the entire day.

One simple change I personally use is a "sunrise alarm". ā˜€ļø

They can be set to begin up to an hour before I need to wake up. A soft light gradually gets brighter, creating a natural sunrise effect. Birds begin to chirp and gentle nature sounds slowly become louder, signaling that morning is approaching. By the time you actually need to get up, music is playing and you wake much more smoothly.

Instead of going from deep sleep to a blaring alarm, your brain and body are given time to gradually transition toward wakefulness.

This gentler approach can reduce that morning startle response, decrease grogginess, and help you begin your day feeling calmer, clearer, and more alert.

We tend to think about managing anxiety when we are already in stressful moments. But nervous system regulation can also begin with the simplest things we do every day, including wakinig up in the morning.
