You would never use AI to write a note to a loved one, substitute artificial intelligence for meaningful human interaction, or give up the art of creative works. We would never use AI as a replacement for our work as physicians.
Our EMR (electronic medical record) does provide scribing assistance with AI and helps us find diagnosis codes when we need them but AI will never be a major player in our work or a substitute for quality care. We also rarely use AI models in searching the literature for evidence based updates to care; we have tried this in the past and find the results too biased based on inputs rather than honest pub med searches. It also has a habit of producing research papers that are fabricated while using current researchers names.
We encourage patients to thoroughly research their conditions on their own as a means of patient advocacy. Several patients have recently brought in incorrect diagnoses from AI entries they have queried. When doing research, be careful what tools you use for accuracy.
We love good tools and using them well in ways that provide the best possible care for you! We also love patient centered approaches, saving water, and preserving human creativity.
What are your thoughts in AI in your care? Do you find it helpful for your doctor to use AI in diagnosing problems?
