Happy Sunday, Flore Inc!

I wanted to reach out to share something I've been working on — and a bit of myself along with it.

For those who don't know what I do all day: I study microbiome signatures and use them to design better, more personalized formulas. Always adapting, always chasing what people actually need.

So I did a thing. I analyzed the neurobiome.

The neurobiome? Yep — the bugs living in your gut that help your brain do its work. Wild, right?

This one's personal. As someone who has struggled with debilitating depression and anxiety, I wanted to look closely at the aggregated data and ask a simple question: are there real ways we could help? It's the same approach we took with autism.

I started with what I affectionately call poo-plinko. We group people purely by their microbiome signatures at the genetic level, setting every label aside, and only put the original labels back at the very end. A truly blind analysis. And it surfaces real problems worth solving, for real people.

So here I am, doing exactly that. Grateful to be in a seat where I get to.

If you're curious, you're warmly invited to try the gut-brain axis assessment and see how it reads for you. Then tell me: does it get you right, or is it completely off? I want to know. It's for science. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for reading, and for being part of this big experiment with me.

I don't know if I mentioned this, but Flore Inc. was awarded a grant to work on a microbiome/gut-based intervention for Autism. Based on our previous work in the space where we grouped all patients as ASD or Neurotypical, we saw a 62% improvement in GI symptoms and mood. Now, after looking at that data, we were able to stratify patients into different categories and will be testing our FDA GRAS interventions - specifically evaluating how they interrupt problematic metabolic pathways in the kids-young adults.

If you know folks, send them our way!

Sometimes trusting your gut isn't the right call — especially when your gut and your brain aren't aligned.

You can eat all the right foods, keep up your meditation, take your anxiety medication — and still feel anxious. That's when it's time to look at the microbiome.

Over the past decade, Flore Inc. has studied how the gut microbiome signature shapes anxiety, and the findings are clear: the gut-brain axis is real. By restoring balance, we can help you trust your gut again.

Psyllium husk is a soluble, gel-forming fiber from the seeds of the Plantago ovata plant. In your gut it absorbs water and turns into a gel that softens hard stool and firms up loose stool — a “stool-normalizing” effect — and it shows prebiotic potential by feeding some of your beneficial, butyrate-producing gut bacteria.

You eat. You burp. An hour later, there's that familiar burn creeping up your chest. You've tried eating slower, cutting out carbonation, propping your pillow up at night. The burping keeps coming. The heartburn keeps coming...

At Flore, we believe what biology has taught us: diversity is health. A thriving microbiome is a diverse one — thousands of species, each with a place, each contributing to the whole. People are no different.

Diversity — the spice of life.

Equity — bestowed upon, and fought for.

Inclusion — to be seen, and included in the conversations.

Belonging — knowing we are where we belong.

We stand with our LGBTQ+ community, our team, and everyone who has ever wondered whether they fit. You do. You belong here.

Happy Pride Month, y'all!

Your gut produces about 90% of your body's serotonin.

Most people hear that and think it's a metaphor. It isn't. The enteric nervous system — 500 million neurons lining your GI tract — runs largely on serotonin, and the bacteria in your gut are directly involved in producing it.

The vagus nerve carries constant two-way communication between your gut and your brainstem. When your gut is inflamed, inefficient, or dysbiotic, that signal is stressful. Not just physically. Mentally.

In our longitudinal dataset, the mental health outcomes surprised me.

Depression: 65.0% within-subject resolution with targeted microbiome support. Anxiety: 45.2%.

These aren't patients who switched medications. These are people who changed one variable — their gut microbiome — and tracked outcomes over 20 months.
