Did you know The Independent Living Center has members of staff who are equipped to assist community members with applying for SSI and disability benefits?

SOAR (SSI/SSDI Outreach, Access, and Recovery) is designed to help individuals navigate the often complicated disability application process and improve access to the benefits and supports they may need.

At The Independent Living Center, we are always looking for new ways to better serve our community and provide meaningful support to individuals on their path toward independence and stability. This is just one more way we’re working to make a difference right here in our community.

If you or someone you know may benefit from this assistance, feel free to contact us to learn more. (417)659-8086

Please note that we have made a slight adjustment to the time for our Men’s Health Day in June.

Join us on June 23rd from 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM for an engaging discussion focused on health, wellness, and overcoming challenges.

We will hear from three speakers who will share their personal experiences of overcoming disability and becoming active, involved members of the community. Their stories will offer insight and encouragement on independence and personal growth.

We will also have a Physical Therapist joining us to discuss the importance of men’s health, exercise, and the role physical therapy can play in maintaining overall wellness and quality of life.

We look forward to a meaningful afternoon of conversation, learning, and connection! Please RSVP by June 16th if you require transportation.

We are excited to announce the return of our second annual “Smokin’ for Support: A TILC Barbecue Bash” on September 19th!

Join us for an evening of great food, live entertainment, and community fun as we come together to support the programs and services of The Independent Living Center. Guests can enjoy delicious barbecue, adult beverages, activities for kids, and live music from the Bobby DeGonia Band!

Meal tickets are just $10, and for an additional $10, guests can sample ribs from competing BBQ teams and cast their vote for People’s Choice.

We still have openings for teams and cooks to join the competition this year. If you or your team are interested in showcasing your BBQ skills, we would love to have you participate. This is a great opportunity to compete, have fun, and support a meaningful cause in our community.

This year’s competition will feature cash prizes, including a $1,000 Judge’s Choice award and two People’s Choice winners receiving $400 each.

Mark your calendars and stay tuned for more details as we get closer to the event. Call us at (417)659-8086 with any questions or to sign up to compete.

What a busy Wednesday it was here at The Independent Living Center!

We welcomed around 40 individuals from local nonprofit organizations and businesses for our Coffee with Non-Profits networking event. It was a great opportunity for community partners to connect, share resources, and learn more about the services available throughout the Joplin area.

During the event, we were able to provide information about our programs and services, including our upcoming STEPS Summer Transitional Program and our new ABI (Adult Brain Injury) services.

We also hosted our very first Workout Wednesday! An instructor from Fair Acres Family YMCA joined us to lead chair exercises for consumers, creating a fun and accessible wellness opportunity for everyone involved.

Overall, it was an amazing day at The Independent Living Center, and we’re excited to continue offering more opportunities for connection, wellness, and peer support in our community.

Be sure to keep an eye on our events page for future programs and activities.
