A few years ago, our local yoga studio was offering a workshop on the healing practice of Reiki. Over the long weekend I learned the technique involved in the first level and practiced regularly over the next year. I felt a noticeable deep calm and peacefulness when practicing and some residual effects begin to seep into the other hours of the day. I was hooked.
So what is Reiki? Reiki is a holistic practice that supports overall healing and wellbeing. It’s a light touch hands on restorative practice that brings a sense of calm and balance. It brings relief to emotional and physical states including pain, anxiety, digestive issues, insomnia, and unhappiness. Like meditation, Reiki practice seems to engage the parasympathetic nervous system, moving the body toward its relaxation response.
After a year of self practice and offering Reiki to clients I received my level 2 training. Level 2 builds on the previous practice and adds the ability to send Reiki long distance, and to the past or future. How does THAT work? Truthfully I don’t really know but it helps to think of it from a Buddhist perspective: The present contains the past and the future. Everything is happening now, in this moment. Time is not actually linear, it’s just now and it’s all within us.
I continue to practice Reiki daily and love to offer it to my clients. If you’re curious about Reiki and how it could benefit you please ask.
Radiance Sutra 96
When the unforgettable calls you -
The memory of something noble,
Generous, inspiring,
Accept the gift.
Savor every detail.
The beauty we admire
Is a visitation from another moment,
Infusing body and heart.
Memory transports us beyond time and space,
Into the living presence of wonder.
