All The Right Ingredients: Ten Years of Jumel

Over the past few months, we've had the privilege of celebrating this milestone several times across our care family, each person representing ten years of dedication, loyalty, and heart. It is never lost on us how rare this is, and how lucky we are to have these people as part of our team - and what is says about the culture we have built here.

Today, we get to celebrate Jumel Maurisset.

With Jumel, it is hard to know where we even begin. Since day one he has given everything to his role, and ten years on, not a single thing has changed. He shows up every single day, without fail, without excuse, and brings his absolute best every single time. In a kitchen that never stops, he is the calm and steady constant that helps the kitchen run like a Swiss watch.

Along with Chef Chris, he helps lead the team with warmth and respect. He loves what he does, and it shows in every meal that leaves that kitchen. And perhaps what moves us most is that he understands, genuinely understands, the impact a lovingly prepared meal plays in someone's recovery - that is the kind of heart cannot be taught.

Outside of these walls, he is a passionate family man and devoted father to six daughters and still has the energy to give everything here. That’s says it all!
Thank you for being the heart of our kitchen, and a deeply member of our family.

Here is to the next 10!

A DECADE OF DEDICATION

Today, we're celebrating Chase Addy, our Director of Admissions here at Beach House Center for Recovery, on his incredible 10-year anniversary with our care family.

A tenure like Chase's doesn't happen by accident, it happens because of heart, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to the people we serve. He, without question has a special gift: the ability to meet people at their most vulnerable moment and make them feel seen, heard, and safe. At a time when someone is reaching out for help often for the very first time, Chase’s voice more often than not, has been on the other end of the line, the steady presence that guides them toward the care they need.

Ten years in, and his drive to elevate the patient experience at every single touchpoint is as strong as it was on day one. He challenges himself, challenges our processes, and consistently raises the bar for what compassionate, effective admissions looks like.

We are so proud to have you as part of the Beach House family, and we are grateful every day for the lives you have helped change.

Here's to 10 years, and to many more.

WEEK FOUR: Connection Is a Powerful Form of Care

Sometimes the most powerful thing you can offer someone isn't advice, or answers, or a solution. It's simply showing up.

When someone we love is navigating a mental health condition alongside substance use challenges, it can be hard to know what to say or do. We worry about saying the wrong thing. We hesitate. And sometimes, in that hesitation, they feel more alone than ever.

Here's what both the research and lived experience tells us: connection itself is medicine. Consistent, patient, non-judgmental presence can be the difference between someone reaching for help or retreating further into silence.

You don't have to have all the answers. You just have to stay.

And when the moment comes that more support is needed than you can give alone, know that professional help is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, because a mental health crisis doesn't keep office hours.

Call or text 988 from anywhere in the U.S. to reach the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.

At Beach House Center for Recovery, we're proud to close out Mental Health Awareness Month alongside Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) with this reminder: recovery doesn't happen in isolation, and neither does healing.

WEEK 3: Words Matter & Words Can Heal

Language shapes everything. The words we choose around mental health can either open a door or close one. They can encourage someone to reach out — or convince them to suffer quietly.

At Beach House Center for Recovery, we believe that talking about mental health with honesty and compassion isn't just good communication, it's an integral part of the healing process itself.

Mental health touches every one of us. Directly, or through someone we love. That means we all have a role to play in how we talk about it, at the dinner table, in the workplace, on social media, and in the moments when someone quietly says "I'm fine" and maybe isn't.

Some small shifts that can make a big difference:

• Say "living with" rather than "suffering from"
• Lead with curiosity, not judgment
• Ask "how are you really doing?" and mean it

This month, we're proud to stand alongside Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) in championing conversations that heal rather than harm.

This week, we are proud to shine a light on Cristina Walker and the powerful 'why' that drives her dedication to guiding individuals and families toward healing and recovery.

“I've watched people I love struggle with substance use. I've seen the way addiction can quietly unravel a family, leaving behind confusion, heartbreak, and a desperate hope for healing and recovery. Those experiences never left me. Instead, they became the cornerstones of everything I do and they're the reason I show up every day with my whole heart and ready.

As the Assistant Director of Nursing and Yoga Instructor here at Beach House Center for Recovery, I have the incredible privilege of walking alongside people during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. What I witness here firsthand is incredible, the courage, the breakthroughs, the transformation, it moves me every single time.

I also passionately believe in the body's ability to heal and recover. Not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually too, this belief is at the core of everything I do. My approach has always been rooted in the connection between mind, body, and spirit, because true recovery, in my experience, can't happen without honoring all three.

It is this belief structure that's what led me to Bali, in 2015, where I completed my 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training. It was a transformative experience on so many levels, that deepened my understanding of mindfulness, movement, and the profound stillness that lives beneath the chaos of our thoughts.

Yoga has without question or hesitation changed my life. It gave me tools to find peace when everything felt uncertain, and I feel truly honored to offer those same tools to the people in our care.

Two phrases guide everything I do: presence is the best present, and movement is medicine. They're simple, but they say everything. Recovery happens in the now. And healing begins when we start to move toward ourselves, toward hope, toward life”.

Mental Health Awareness Month 2026

WEEK TWO: Early Help Matters

At Beach House Center for Recovery, we know that when one person struggles, the whole family feels it.

When a loved one is facing a mental health condition alongside substance use challenges, it can feel isolating like you're navigating something no one else could understand. But here's what our Admissions and Alumni teams want every family to know: you are not alone, and neither are they.

Early help isn't just about the individual it is about their ecosystem too. It's about the relationships, the households, and the communities that surround them. Reaching out sooner, before a crisis deepens, can change the entire trajectory of a person’s recovery.

Support exists for the whole family. Whether you're looking for guidance on how to help, resources for yourself as a caregiver, or a path forward for your loved one, SAMHSA has tools designed with you in mind.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, we're proud to stand alongside Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) in championing care that sees every person and every family fully.

Happy National Nurses Week!

This year’s theme from the American Nurses Association, is “the power of nurses” and we can’t think of a more appropriate way to celebrate this special group of people!

Not only do they have the power to care but also, the power to advocate, to lead, to show up every single time with both clinical expertise and never-ending compassion.

Nurses are the heartbeat of healthcare. The ones who hold hands, who listen, who support, who ease nerves, and still somehow find the energy to go above and beyond at the end of every shift for others.

This week is also a moment to honor every nurse who has ever worn these scrubs. The trailblazers who pushed the profession forward. The educators who shaped the next generation. The advocates who fought for better care. And to every nurse who showed up, day after day, and made a difference in someone's life.

To every nurse out there: this week belongs to you.

May marks the start of Mental Health Awareness Month, a nationwide initiative that has been observed since 1949 and is dedicated to raising awareness, sharing resources, and supporting the individuals and communities who need it most.

At the Beach House, we're proud to stand alongside the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) in championing the four cornerstones of this key time in the healthcare calendar:

• Understanding Mental Illness
• Early Support Matters
• Words Matter & Words Can Heal
• Connection Is a Powerful Form of Care

This week, with Understanding Mental Illness.

Mental health conditions are medical conditions. They are not character flaws. They are not signs of weakness. and the people living with them are so much more than any diagnosis. When we lead with understanding, we create space for people to seek help. We build workplaces, families, and communities where no one has to suffer in silence.

Recovery is possible. Healing is possible. And it starts with understanding.

Life experiences have a powerful way of shaping how we see others, listen more deeply, and connect with empathy and understanding. We believe that some of the most meaningful care comes from individuals who bring both professional expertise and lived experience to their work.

As part of our Care Family Focus, we are proud to highlight our Alumni Wellness Coordinator, Heather Conner, and the powerful “why” that fuels her each day.

“My career has always been centered around people. Long before I began working in addiction recovery, I spent years in customer service and sales roles that required patience, communication, problem‑solving, and a genuine desire to support others. Helping people navigate difficult moments has always come naturally to me, but what truly led me into the recovery field was my own lived experience.

Addiction shaped my life for many years, and long‑term recovery ultimately reshaped it. That journey allows me to connect with others on a deeper level, meeting them with empathy, honesty, and a shared understanding that can’t be taught in a classroom.

Outside of work, I stay grounded through spiritual practices that help maintain my emotional and spiritual balance. Prayer, meditation, journaling, and daily study of the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous and the Bible keep me centered and aligned with my values.

One of my proudest accomplishments has been returning to Beach House as an Alumni Coordinator, the exact same place where my own recovery began.

After 15 years of struggling and attending multiple treatment centers, the Beach House Center for Recovery became sacred ground for me. When I first arrived, I was terrified and far from home. Discovering that the area is known for sea turtle nesting reminded me of my roots in Hawaii and felt like a moment of reassurance that I was exactly where I needed to be.

Today, my mission is to ensure that every alum knows they matter that they are seen, remembered, supported, and always part of our recovery community long after they leave treatment.”
