CONTROL THE CONTROLLABLE. ❤️
That message came so strongly to me during my workout today, and I truly felt like God put it on my heart to share. 🙏
As I was working out, I thought…
Wow. I have been showing up for my workouts for almost 20 YEARS. 💪
My health journey started after I had Kayla.
I remember getting the green light from my doctor to exercise, leaving that appointment and driving STRAIGHT to a gym to sign Scott and me up for memberships.
Back then, I wasn’t someone who consistently worked out. Honestly…I didn’t even really know what I was doing. 😅
But I knew one thing:
I didn’t feel good.
I had gained a CRAZY amount of weight during my pregnancies, and after having Kayla, it wasn’t budging.
I remember someone asking me MONTHS after she was born when I was due.
But it wasn’t even just about the weight.
I felt uncomfortable. Insecure. Exhausted. Emotional. Frustrated. 😩
I just didn’t feel like ME.
So I started.
And these were NOT perfect conditions.
I had two little kids. Kayla was only a few months old and dealing with asthma and multiple food allergies we were trying to figure out. She didn’t sleep. Matt didn’t sleep. Scott worked midnights. 😴
I was exhausted.
But I was also desperate for change.
So I just started. 🙌🏻
And I had NO IDEA that one decision would change the entire direction of my life. 👏🏻
✔️ One workout became another.
✔️ One healthier meal became another.
✔️ Little choices started stacking up.
I lost the 40 pounds I thought would NEVER come off.
But what I gained was so much bigger. 😃
Energy. Strength. Confidence. Happiness. JOY.
I remember realizing…
I DIDN’T KNOW I COULD FEEL THIS GOOD. 🙌🏻
Exercise led me to nutrition. Nutrition led me to learning more about ingredients, organic foods, supplements, reducing toxins and preventive health.
A passion grew inside me that eventually led me to leave my 15-year career in accounting and pursue health + wellness. ❤️
12 years later, I’m STILL here. ✨
And if anything, the passion God placed in my heart for helping people take better care of themselves has only gotten STRONGER. 🔥
Which brings me back to what came over me today:
✨CONTROL THE CONTROLLABLE. ✨
There is SO much in this life we cannot control.
We can’t control what tomorrow brings.
We can’t control every diagnosis.
We can’t stop ourselves from aging.
We can’t control every circumstance that comes our way.
But we CAN be good stewards of the body God gave us.🙌🏻
✔️ I can choose to move my body.
✔️ I can choose foods that nourish me.
✔️ I can choose to give my body the nutrients it needs.
✔️ I can prioritize sleep, manage stress, get outside, pray, walk, lift weights and take care of myself.
Not because any of it guarantees me tomorrow.
But because I want to do what I CAN with what God has given me and trust HIM with the rest. 🙏🏼
Do I do it perfectly?
NO.
But I keep showing up.
For almost 20 years, through babies, working outside the home, busy schedules, hard seasons, beautiful seasons, hormonal changes, moves, stress, vacations, holidays and everything in between…
I KEPT SHOWING UP. ✨
And I think too many people are waiting.
When I have more time…
When I have more money…
When life settles down…
After vacation…
After the holidays…
On Monday…
Tomorrow…
But here’s what I’ve learned:
Life doesn’t stop being LIFE so you can finally start taking care of yourself.
You don’t have to change everything today.
Just do ONE thing.
Take the walk. Do the workout. Drink the water. Eat the protein. Make the healthier meal.
Then tomorrow…do it again.
Twenty years later, I’m incredibly proud that I started that day. 👏🏻
Not because I’ve done it perfectly.
And not because I’m special.
I’m sharing it because I want YOU to know you can do this too.
You are not stuck.
Your first step doesn’t have to be huge.
It just has to happen.
Stop waiting for perfect conditions.
Stop waiting for tomorrow.
Control what you CAN control.
Take care of the body you’ve been given.
And trust God with everything you can’t. ❤️🙏🏼
