Many of you have gotten to know me well over the years, so you already know this, but one of the biggest reasons we chose to merge with this group is because we are fundamentally aligned in our values when it comes to caring for patients. 💜…And speaking of women’s health, September is Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month, bringing awareness to uterine, ovarian, cervical, vaginal, & vulvar cancers. So, let this be your reminder: schedule your annual exam!…and the following year before you leave! Staying on track with routine care matters. 💜

POV: You’ve been rehearsing your 17 questions for the doctor all week…
🚪 Doctor walks in
🧠 Brain: “Actually, I have no questions. I have never had a question in my life.” 😂
We’ve ALL done it!
So bring the notes. 📝 Screenshot the questions. Keep a list in your phone 📱& if you suddenly remember something after I leave the room… write that down too!
Your appointment is your time, so ask the questions & bring up ANY concerns. Don’t leave thinking, “Dang it, I forgot to ask…” 😆
And no, we won’t judge your list!

Love all the love!! 💗 When patients take the time to show their appreciation, it’s such a powerful reminder that even on the hardest days, this work is worth it. Knowing I can actually help people and, sometimes, change the trajectory of their lives makes it all worth it. ~ONE LOVE~ 🫶🏿🇯🇲💜

Final Friday of our OB-GYN Myths series, and it wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the relatively recent removal of the “black box” warning ⛔️ on menopausal hormone therapy…& ALL the reasons it’s helpful for other health conditions!
As the number of women I’ve seen for hormone therapy has increased, so have the comments:
“You’re the first male gynecologist I’ve ever seen 👨🏿‍⚕️!”
Honestly, I’m honored so many of you have trusted me so much with your own care, & believed in me so much you encouraged your friends and family to consider an alternative option.
One of my favorite parts is when I walk into the room & can literally see the moment they take a breath & relax…the realization that “it’s not weird.” 😊 I don’t have to be born a female, to understand some of what they experience, that’s literally what empathy & education are for! (& my wife, mother & sisters)
It’s actually one of the reasons OB-GYN is my favorite field of medicine. I get to build long-term relationships with patients, much like Primary Care, while also having the ability to step into the OR when surgery is the right answer.
I love both sides of it: building trust in the exam room & changing lives in the operating room.
Perhaps most importantly, helping women understand that they deserve to be heard, informed, & given options when it comes to their health. Don’t suffer unnecessarily! There are some parts of this care that insurance does cover!

Some women ask for a “natural” birth & that term is one of my personal “OB-icks”. 😂 But I get it. Some women want a no- or low-intervention birth plan, & I can absolutely get behind that…or even squat down underneath to catch the baby when Mom doesn’t want to lie down. 😉(true story) or come to them when She wants to push while in the shower 🚿.
Spoiler alert 🚨: If I’m “on call,” I’m at the hospital regardless. So, honestly, it’s LESS work for me to let you do your thing & only come when I’m needed. Another spoiler alert ‼️: I make exactly $0 more for a C-section, or a VBAC, which can actually be a lot more labor-intensive. (Pun intended. 😂) I promise, if there were a financial incentive, I’d absolutely know about it…I do know hospitals 🏥 track Doctor’s C-section rates.
What can influence how your body handles pregnancy & labor *that you have some control over? Your overall health & fitness.
Before anyone jumps on me, I absolutely know not every health condition is within a mom’s control, & pregnancy can be unpredictable (My own Wife was in the ER 5 times between 30-32 weeks). But for a low-risk pregnancy, maintaining appropriate activity & fitness can be beneficial. Even for higher-risk moms, when cleared by their provider, things like breath work, pelvic floor exercises, & appropriate low-impact movement can be incredibly helpful.
You’re expecting your body do THE single most demanding task it may ever do; create & deliver a human being. So let’s stop shaming pregnant women for staying active or for how or where they deliver. Vaginal birth. C-section. Epidural. No epidural. Induction. Unmedicated. VBAC. Planned C-section. There is no prize 🏆 for doing it the “right” way…The REAL gift 💝 is the sweet baby 👶🏽 who we all want to be healthy. Let’s also stop the misinformation, the shame & judgment around something so deeply personal.
Because every mom I’ve met & cared for could use a little more kindness, encouragement, & compassion! I’ve Literally never seen it turned down once my whole career. ~ONE LOVE~👨🏿‍⚕️💜 🇯🇲🫶🏿

Creating our own patient education with “OB/GYN Myths: Facts vs. Fiction”! 🩺✨Because there’s A LOT of misinformation out there & we want our patients to know what’s fact, what’s fiction, & what actually applies to you; & if for some reason you don’t, most importantly, we want you to feel empowered enough to ask us and not mom groups!
Stay tuned…we’ve got some myths to bust! And you all already know about my last “Hot Takes video”! 👀 ~ONE LOVE~ 💜🫶🏿🇯🇲

Because taking care of patients doesn’t stop when we walk out of the office doors 🚪 There’s more than one way to care for our patients & advocating for women’s health, & access to quality healthcare is part of that care, too. 🩺❤️🤍💙
Healthcare doesn’t exist in a vacuum. Our voices, our votes, and our willingness to stand up for our patients matter. 🗳️

👨🏿‍⚕️OB/GYN perks & why I chose this field of medicine!
✔️ Deliver babies 👶🏽
✔️ Perform surgery to improve the quality of someone’s life 🩺
✔️ Talk about things most people would NEVER discuss at dinner 🍽️
✔️ Somehow become emotionally invested in people you met 9 months ago 🤍
✔️ Occasionally receive an absolutely ADORABLE & MEANINGFUL thank-you card like this one 💜😂
There is no greater privilege than being trusted during some of the most incredibly personal, important, vulnerable, exciting🥳, terrifying😰, & unforgettable🤰🏽moments of someone’s life.
Thank you for the beautiful reminder that behind every appointment, every delivery & every surgery…there is a HUMAN…or 2 or 3 & a story.
And yes… we will happily accept baby pictures as payment for emotional damages incurred during labor and delivery 🩺. 😂😂

Seriously though, thank you. 🫶🏿
