🍽️ Feeding kids on the autism spectrum comes with unique challenges — and the research backs that up.

Studies show that nearly 70% of autistic children experience significant feeding difficulties, with food selectivity up to 5x higher than neurotypical peers. (Bandini et al., 2010 | Leader et al., 2020)

The most common nutrient gaps? Calcium, iron, zinc, and vitamin D — often a direct result of restricted eating patterns.

Swipe through this carousel to learn:
✅ Sensory-friendly food swaps
✅ How to bridge nutritional gaps
✅ Mealtime environment strategies
✅ Evidence-based ways to introduce new foods

Small, consistent steps make a big difference. The goal is never a “perfect eater” — it’s a safe, calm relationship with food. 🧡

When a child cannot communicate their pain they show it in their behavior. The irritability. The food refusal. The inconsolable moments that make you feel like you are failing as a parent. You are not failing. Your child is suffering and their body is trying to tell you something that nobody has stopped long enough to listen to 💛

Testing is not about labels or diagnoses. It is about finally having answers 🔬 It is about looking at what is actually happening inside your child’s gut, their cells, their chemistry — and using that information to support their body the right way. Not guessing. Not eliminating every food and hoping for the best. Actually knowing 👇
Your child deserves more than management. They deserve support that starts at the root 🌱

If your child has autism, and you’ve never heard of the OAT test, this is for you 🧩

The organic acids test is a simple urine test that gives us a real look on what’s happening inside your child’s body - their gut bacteria, their brain chemistry, their cellular energy. Things that directly connect to meltdowns, the sleep, the gut pain, and the behaviors you’re watching every single day 🧩

This is not a standard lab, but for families I work with, it’s always one of the first places we look 🧩

The test helps us get a different perspective on what’s going on beneath the diagnosis 🧩

What if half of your child’s meltdowns are more than behavioral 🧠

In functional testing, I see this pattern constantly: sensory avoidance → shrinking gut diversity → neuroinflammation → harder behaviors 🧩

It’s a loop 🔁

A 2025 randomized controlled trial showed that diet combined with daily movement produced significant improvements in autistic kids — gross motor skills, cognitive function, behavior regulation. Diet alone? Didn’t move the needle.

That’s the holistic piece nobody talks about.

Swipe for the full science — and 3 swaps you can start this week.

💙 Did you know that gastrointestinal issues are significantly more common in children with autism, with constipation being one of the most frequently reported concerns?

🔬 Tests like the Organic Acids Test and stool analysis can help us better understand factors such as gut bacteria, yeast overgrowth, short-chain fatty acids, digestion, and other clues that may be affecting gut health. The goal isn’t to guess—it’s to gather information so we can create a more personalized support plan puzzle 🧩

💙 Children with autism often face challenges with communication, sleep, focus, behavior, digestion, and sensory processing. When they can’t always tell us what they’re experiencing, it’s our job to listen in other ways and look for clues that may help us better support them.

🔬 That’s why I value the Organic Acids Test. It gives us insight into areas like neurotransmitters, gut health, yeast and bacterial metabolites, nutrient deficiencies, mitochondrial function, and other pathways that can influence how the brain and body function. Instead of guessing, we can gather information and create a more personalized plan.

🧩 Every child is different, which means every child deserves an individualized approach. The goal isn’t to find a magic answer—it’s to better understand what their body may need so we can provide the support they deserve.

🧩 One reason I prioritize advanced testing in children with autism is because many of these kids can’t always tell us exactly what they’re experiencing. If a child is struggling with speech, behavior, focus, digestion, or emotional regulation, I want to gather as much information as possible.

🔬 The Organic Acids Test (OAT) gives us insight into areas like gut health, yeast overgrowth, bacterial metabolites, nutrient deficiencies, mitochondrial function, and other factors that may be placing additional stress on the brain and nervous system.

💙 These children deserve support. When they can’t always tell us what’s going on, testing can provide valuable clues that help us better understand where their body may need help. We test so we don’t guess.
