October is OCD Awareness Month!
But what is OCD? Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, commonly called OCD, is a real and treatable mental health condition that affects the way someone thinks, feels, acts, and lives their daily life. OCD can be hard to see in others as it often is an internal struggle with your thoughts and fears. So what can OCD look like?
OCD often consists of obsessive thoughts and compulsive actions. This could mean continual worry for the people around you, constantly questioning yourself and your memories, the feeling of things needing to be “just right”, excessive washing or cleaning, repeating actions until done correctly, and so much more.
OCD is not the same for each person, but one thing to remember is that you are not your thoughts. Having unwanted thoughts and feelings can be overwhelming and exhausting, but OCD is treatable and change is possible. If you or someone you know struggles with OCD, reach out today to connect with one of our therapists.
