Going through some fun Katie St.Clair - CSCS, CPT programming and then finishing out the workout by wylin’ out on the ski erg with no regard to anything but effort. Arms are jello as I post this.

Week 2 of no running is in the books! Still doing totally fine? It’s been rather enjoyable, actually. But hoping to get back out there soon!

You can read more about my injury and how I’m training around it on my Substack page - RealTalkNutrition

Oh, and at a strength and conditioning conference yesterday I won a plyo push-up contest that VALD Performance held. This was a contest of upper body power. Being 100% lower body dominant for the first 35 years of my life this was a hysterical win and also proof that runners can have powerful upper body muscles too! You just need a good program and not miss workouts too often 💪

Just a couple hours before this play (photo 1) Magnolia was making a bookmark and asked me to list some things I liked to do.

Hmm “diving” “I like to dive for things when I play sports”

She’s seen me tear up the front yard enough to not be shocked, but since she couldn’t find a way to draw it this interest of mine didn’t make the bookmark. Maybe next time it will!

Women lifting up women. Celebrating every play like it was a game winning touchdown. I love team sports so much.

We got walloped, but never stopped playing hard and smiling!

Growing up (and still) there were sports for boys only and sports for girls only. Football was a boys sport, field hockey was a girls sport. I didn’t play field hockey. I hated it and how it was for right handed people only. I always wished there was a way to play more football.

I was a girl in a sea of boys playing football at recess knowing that this was going to be my only chance to play the game. We didn’t have flag where I grew up. And there weren’t any girls on the football team. My chance to play football dead ended at recess.

So I came home everyday with more and more holes in my windbreaker pants and grass stains to layer on the previous days grass stains. I don’t think I had a girl as a friend until middle school (high school?) 😝

I’m so thankful to have this opportunity to play a sport I always wanted to competitively play. An organized game. With teammates and refs and plays. Realizing a very real dream from when I was a kid.

True to form, 2 months ago at the flag info meeting I was the only one who said my reason for joining was to to compete 😎. Everyone else was looking for community and a new sport and fun. I was looking to win. I know many others have now turned that competitive corner as well, and I’m so excited to play alongside this group of women tomorrow night.

We’re playing 2 games vs. collegiate teams at Grizz Stadium. It’s the first ever Women’s team for Missoula. It’s time to compete, and celebrate women taking over the football field and owning it. 🏈

Thank you to VRTX Fitness for making this happen!!

Who is coming?!?

Is field hockey still a thing? Or is it just not a west coast thing? Genuinely asking

I turned 38 in Hawaii and it was as dreamy as it sounds. I couldn’t sleep so I went for a run and saw the sunrise. Although, don’t be fooled, that part wasn’t dreamy. It was one of those “I feel like complete garbage” runs where I never found my bounce. But I had nothing better to do

I got back to the hotel around 7 and the crew was awake and the room was decorated. Amy packed bday decorations (!!!!) and Magnolia collected flowers the day before to make me a flower walkway in the room 🙌. I requested pastries for breakfast.

I threw my body around in the ocean and boogie boarded in not so epic waves BUT that didn’t stop me from being fully me and staying aggressive with my kick to edge out my wave neighbor by a foot (4th slide).

I don’t fear getting older and feel like I shouldn’t even mention aging until I’m at least 45. But even then I’m committed to staying positive about it.

There’s research on how the people who perceive aging as a positive tend to have way better health in the second half of their lives than the people who view it as negative and fall victim to it/complain about it. This won’t apply to everyone but it is something we can choose. And I think that’s pretty damn empowering. Cheers to being here!

I’ve been with Amy for 4 years. Amy has 2 kids from a previous marriage. I have a strong identity woven with independence and adventure

I didn’t grow up imagining a wedding or kids. I never knew what I wanted. In many ways, I still don’t. So when I fell in love with a woman with 2 kids, I knew I was in for the challenge of a lifetime. I was never drawn to kids, found them rather annoying if I’m being honest.

But I do know that I need to evolve. I need to change. I’m tired of my old self. And the greatest change of all is always on the other side of discomfort and fear.

I can’t even begin to tell you the discomfort and fear I live with trying to integrate into a family that I wasn’t part of from the beginning. The only thing that quells my fear and resentment is walking towards it.

We went on a long vaca to Hawaii and had an amazingly positive experience together. I don’t live with Amy and the kids and with my tendency towards avoidance, I love to flee back to my apartment for space, peace, quiet, all the things every parent not so secretly desires.

So to spend 8 days fully together was a big deal. And I was flooded with overwhelm on the way there, shared it with Amy, and worked through it. Overall we had an amazing time, and I actually find myself missing it.

Changing an identity you’ve had your whole life doesn’t happen overnight. But I don’t want to have all the free time and no responsibility anymore. It feels stale, boring. These kids and this woman bring so much purpose to my life. And I do believe the shift towards them is speeding up (for me 🐌)
