A patient called with concerns about their knee but wasn’t sure it was serious enough to come in. Danielle McCarthy listened, asked a few more questions and encouraged them to be evaluated.

It turned out to be a severe septic knee infection that could have become life-threatening if left untreated.

At SEARHC, we believe exceptional care starts with seeing the person behind the patient. Through compassion, clinical excellence and a commitment to listening closely, Danielle helps patients feel heard, supported and cared for at every step of their journey.

Please join us in congratulating Danielle on being named a 2026 The DAISY Foundation Award recipient! 🌼

Breast Cancer Awareness? Very chic.

Knowing your body, staying on top of recommended screenings and making informed decisions about your health are all part of taking care of you.

And if cost is standing between you and getting screened, SEARHC’s Breast & Cervical Health Program may be able to help. The program provides financial assistance to eligible Alaskan women ages 21–64 for certain breast and cervical cancer screenings and diagnostic testing, including mammograms.

When an elderly patient arrived at the Wrangell emergency room frightened and confused, a colleague noticed a remarkable change. By the time the physician returned, the patient was calm and smiling.

“The difference was Sara,” one colleague said.

At SEARHC, we believe exceptional care starts with connection. Through compassion, clinical excellence and a deep respect for each person’s culture, values and voice, Sara helps patients feel seen, heard and cared for during some of life’s most difficult moments.

Please join us in congratulating Sara on being named a 2026 The DAISY Foundation Award recipient!

If you hurt your back, you go to physical therapy to build strength and learn exercises that help in daily life. Harry Bradley, Chemical Dependency Counselor II in Sitka, joined Martha Pearson, SEARHC Behavioral Health Program Director, on Raven Radio’s “Health Chat” to talk about substance abuse therapy the same way, as a place to build real skills for real situations.

Harry shares that therapy isn’t just about talking through what happened. It’s about learning tools, ways to recognize triggers, manage cravings, and respond differently when life gets hard, so those skills are ready when you need them most, out in the world.

Recovery is a skill you can build. If you or someone you know is struggling, we are here to help. September is both National Recovery Month and Su***de Prevention Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness and remind people that help and hope are available.
