A new treatment option for adults with treatment-resistant depression is now available at WMed Health Psychiatry.

Esketamine, an FDA-approved prescription nasal spray, can be used alone or in combination with an oral antidepressant for adults with treatment-resistant depression (patients who have had an inadequate response to two or more oral antidepressants).

Esketamine can also be used in combination with an oral antidepressant for depressive symptoms in adults with major depressive disorder with acute suicidal ideation or behavior.

Dr. Diana Westgate from the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine is conducting research to gauge knowledge and practices regarding sun exposure and sun protection in women before and after having children. Participation in this study will consist of completing a survey regarding your sun exposure and sun protection habits. Laurence McCahill, MD, has been named the new division chief of the Division of Surgical Oncology at WMU Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed).

Dr. McCahill, who began his new role on March 17, is a professor in the Department of Surgical Sciences and provides care to patients as a surgical oncologist at WMed Health and the West Michigan Cancer Center (WMCC).

Dr. McCahill specializes in melanoma and other advanced skin cancers including locally advanced squamous cell and basal cell cancers, merkel cell melanoma, and other skin cancers requiring a more extensive surgical approach.
