After what happened to Semaj Lee, one thing is clear: parents of nonverbal and disabled children deserve transparency.

Too many families are constantly told:
“Your child was aggressive.”
“Your child had behaviors today.”
“Your child was difficult.”

But as parents, we KNOW our children. And sometimes the stories we hear just don’t sit right in our spirit.

Our children deserve safety.
Our children deserve dignity.
And parents deserve peace of mind knowing what happens when we are not there.

It’s time for cameras in classrooms, therapy centers, and special education settings. Not to shame good staff — but to protect BOTH children and caring educators while creating accountability and trust.

Nonverbal children cannot always tell us when something is wrong.
So we must advocate louder.

If cameras can protect businesses, stores, and buildings… why not protect our most vulnerable children?

Mom’Atism stands with every parent fighting for safer spaces, transparency, and respect for children with disabilities. 💙🧩

Autism Parent Check-In 🧩❤️

Parents, let’s talk about transitioning from ABA therapy into a school setting…

Was the adjustment easy or difficult for your child? Did they transition into Gen Ed, ASD/ASF, or another classroom setting?

What were some of the biggest challenges you noticed:
• Behavior changes?
• Emotional regulation?
• Communication struggles?
• Sensory overload?
• Difficulty with routines or social interaction?

And most importantly — what helped your child adjust?

Your experience could help another autism family navigating this same journey right now. 💙

If Semaj could tell us in his own words what happened, I imagine he would say:

“I was scared. I didn’t understand why the people who were supposed to help me were hurting me. Just because I can’t speak doesn’t mean I don’t feel, hear, remember, or understand. I needed patience, safety, kindness… and someone to protect me.”

Being nonverbal does not mean being voiceless. It means adults must listen differently. Our children deserve safety, dignity, patience, and protection especially when they cannot tell us what happened in words. 💔

For many nonverbal autistic children, behavior is communication. Fear, distress, shutdowns, meltdowns, or sudden changes can be signs that something is wrong even when they can’t explain it with words. What makes stories like this especially painful for families is the trust involved: parents are handing over their most vulnerable children and hoping they will be treated with dignity and care.

At the same time, because an investigation is ongoing, it’s important not to assume every detail before all facts are confirmed. But if the allegations are true, the biggest thing Semaj might want adults to understand is this: Being nonverbal does not mean being voiceless. It means adults must listen differently.🙏🫂💙😭
