One of the hardest parts of this life is realizing how often grieving parents shrink themselves to fit what other people can handle.

You pause before mentioning them.
You notice the silence afterward.
You see the quick subject changes.
The uncomfortable looks.
The way people act like too much time has passed.

So eventually, a lot of parents stop talking.

Not because they stopped loving their child.
Not because they are healing.
But because constantly feeling like you made the room uncomfortable hurts too.

Meanwhile, we’re over here carrying the kind of pain that never really leaves our bodies.

And somehow we’re the ones trying to make everyone else comfortable with it.
