A Major Shift in Dementia Care Support Is Finally Happening

For the first time, Medicare is beginning to recognize and support the unpaid family caregivers caring for loved ones with dementia. In this clip, Nancy Gillette of PocketRN explains why the new GUIDE model is such a significant step forward—offering respite care options like home care and adult day programs for families who desperately need support.

While 72 hours of respite care may not sound like much, it’s more support than Medicare has ever provided before for dementia caregivers. And it signals a long-overdue shift toward valuing the emotional, physical, and logistical demands families face every day.

Caregiving often begins suddenly, without training, preparation, or clear guidance. Knowing what resources are available can make all the difference in reducing overwhelm and helping both caregivers and loved ones feel supported.

Can a Simple Puzzle Become a Powerful Caregiving Tool? 🧩

In this clip, Ju Tu shares how a simple puzzle book can create 45 minutes to an hour of meaningful engagement, problem-solving, and conversation for people living with memory challenges.

Beyond the puzzles themselves, conversation guides inspired by national parks encourage storytelling, reminiscing, and social connection. Caregivers are even adapting the activities into interactive memory café games that support different ability levels in fun and creative ways.

Sometimes the simplest tools create the most meaningful moments. 💙

From household tasks to brain and memory exercises, purposeful engagement isn’t just about staying busy—it’s about helping someone continue to feel capable, connected, and valued.

So keep up the good work of sharing purpose with your clients and familys dealing with dementia 💙

Why Purpose Matters During Life’s Hardest Moments 💛

When facing uncertainty, it’s easy to spiral into fear about what might happen next. But in this CareLab Podcast clip, Kym Coco shares a powerful mindset shift: instead of focusing on outcomes you can’t control, focus on what gives your life meaning right now.

Kym explains how cutting out what no longer serves you, staying connected, and creating something meaningful can help redirect emotional energy toward healing and purpose. Whether it’s caring for someone you love, moving your body, creating art, or simply finding new ways to approach everyday challenges, humans need purpose to move forward.

Even in difficult seasons, channeling your energy into connection and creativity can help you spiral upward instead of downward.
Sometimes healing begins with asking: “What can I create from where I am today?”

You can spend an entire month picking out a logo, comparing website platforms, setting up social accounts, designing business cards, and choosing brand colors. You'll feel incredibly productive. You'll also have zero clients. 👇

Here's the difference most OTs starting a business never learn in time.
(Including me. I lived on the wrong side of this line for a YEAR.)

There's a difference between feeling productive and actually being productive in ways that grow your business.

So here's the test I wish someone had handed me on day one:
Ask yourself: "Is the thing I'm working on right now going to get me closer to a paying client THIS month?"
Not this year. This month.
If the answer is no → it can wait.

Here's what actual progress looks like:
↳ Defining your offer in one sentence (way harder than it sounds — spend your time there)
↳ Running the math on your rate — how many visits do you actually need? When will you need to hire?
↳ Picking up the phone and having a real conversation with someone in your target population

Everything else?
Preparation disguised as action.

Moving your feet fast without going very far.

I know because I lived it. I spent a year feeling like a proud business owner — but it took me a whole second year to actually get to regular referrals.

If you're in that cycle right now, the Practice Launch Roadmap inside OT Connected is built for exactly this. It puts the right tasks in front of you, in the right order, so the time you have actually moves the needle.

Built by OTPs, for OTPs — for the version of you who's tired of being busy and ready to be effective.

Finding Purpose in the Small Steps 💛

Sometimes growth doesn’t come from huge life changes—it comes from the small, intentional steps we take each day.

In this CareLab Podcast clip, Kym Coco shares how she found purpose while caring for her husband, Steve. With his diet highly restricted, she turned the challenge into something meaningful by testing recipes and creating a cookbook filled with meals that worked.

What could have been overwhelming became a creative outlet, a sense of progress, and a way to keep moving forward.

Healing and fulfillment are often built through small wins, purpose, and everyday acts of care.

Every single week, OTs tell me why they can't build something of their own. It's almost always one of these 3 reasons. 👇

Let's go through them honestly.
1. "I don't have time."
I hear you. But here's the reframe: you don't have time because you're spending all of it inside a system that isn't paying you what you're worth.
The Practice Launch Roadmap inside OT Connected gives you a sequenced plan — first do this, then this, then this — so the limited time you DO have actually moves the needle instead of going in circles.
↳ Roadmap = use your time on the right things, in the right order.

2. "I don't have money to invest."
The free tier inside OT Connected is actually free. Not a trial. Not a teaser. Free.
You get:
↳ The community
↳ SAMIE, our AI trained on business + OT
↳ The Handout Builder
No credit card. No catch. You can start building today without spending a dollar.

3. "I don't know anything about business."
You weren't supposed to.
OT school didn't teach it. That's not a personal failing — that's a gap in the system. And that gap is exactly what OT Connected was built to fill.
The Roadmap doesn't assume you have an MBA. It assumes you're a clinician who's ready to start.
↳ That's all you need.

Here's the thing: these objections are valid feelings. Every single one.
But they are not reasons to stay stuck.

They're reasons to start with a platform built for exactly where you are right now — by OTPs, for OTPs.

The only thing standing between you and starting is the decision to start.

👇 Be honest in the comments: which objection has been holding YOU back? Time, money, or business know-how?

From “I Can’t” to “I Just Did”—Why Progress Takes Time

She was a lifelong runner with little upper body strength, convinced she’d never be able to do a single pull-up.

In this clip, we highlight a powerful reminder: standards aren’t about instant results—they’re something to work toward. What really matters is the process, the consistency, and the willingness to keep showing up.

After a year of steady effort, she did her first pull-up… then her second. And the joy on her face said it all.

Growth doesn’t happen overnight—but with patience and persistence, what once felt impossible can become reality.

Physical Therapy Gets You Back—Strength Training Moves You Forward

Physical therapy is powerful—it helps you recover, reduce pain, and return to your baseline. But here’s the catch: that same baseline may have contributed to the issue in the first place.

In this clip, we explore an important shift in thinking: recovery shouldn’t stop once you’re “back to normal.” True progress happens when you build beyond that point. That’s where strength training comes in—helping you become more resilient, capable, and less likely to end up back where you started.

A Physical Therapy professional has the expertise to guide you from injury to function—but there’s a huge opportunity to go further. By gradually introducing strength training after rehab, you can turn recovery into long-term progress.

Don’t just aim to get back—aim to get stronger.
